I don`t have any interest in White Castle except I loves me some sliders and every now and then just gotta get a sack and scarf.

Just ran across a pretty cute Valentine`s Day promotion they started about 15 years ago in Minneapolis and St. Louis, spread last year to the Midwest and this year is being done for the first time in the east.

You call your local White Castle "reservation desk," lock in a Valentine`s Day slot at your nearest participating WC, show up and be seated by a hostess for a sit-down candelit dinner of steamed burgers and trimmings, with your own server.

Hadn`t heard of this one before. They also have take-home Cupid`s Crave Kits if the idea of a candelit dinner in a White Castle freaks you.

All the info`s here:

Anybody have some similarly unusual plans or ideas for V Day?

Is your company doing any special promotions?

Ric,

At least one White Castle has done it here in the Minneapolis area regularily in the past.  It was such a novelty when it started because, well its White Castle and the one that started doing it isn`t in the very best part of town.  Every year they more than fill their reservation list though. They usually have at least one of the local evening news crews reporting from the restaurant (and I do use the term restaurant loosely).

Talk about your creative marketing.  Its such a novelty that it works.  Granted you probably won`t see the upper 1% crowd going to get sliders on Valentine`s Day but it plays perfectly for their demographic market.

For those who`ve never heard of White Castle, it`s a burger joint with little tiny burgers. They`re steamed on a griddle, rather than broiled or fried. They`re so small a typical order often is half a dozen (hamburgers or cheseburger). And because they`re made of mouse meat (so the legend goes), the just slide right on down...particularly through an alcohol-modified esophagus. Hence the endearment "sliders." An alternate version is that they go down nice, but "slide right on out" shortly thereafter, particularly during a hangover.

Our company has a Valentine`s Day promotion. :-) (Pause for shameless eBay promotion.) Kathy has the info on SuN community member specials.

So, does anybody else have plans for, or know of, other off-center Valentine`s Day celebrations?

Mmmm, sliders. I was raised in Chicago and remember them well. Now in California where there are no White Castles, I thank you for bringing back a fond memory.

Ric,

I think you have gotten everyone so super-excited about White Castle they can`t remember what their plans are for Valentine`s Day!   Just on a side-note, I do love White Castle....especially good late-night.

I hear ya. Toss in a couple of genuine Moon Pies, one chocolate and one banana, and you`ve got a dandy meal.
