Your help, please!  Michigan`s economy is terrible- I can`t move(elderly parents to take care of).  I  need an business idea in a down economy.  Many people are starting businesses- thousands of auto workers are taking packages to leave-there are dozens of handy-man and lawn care business in the "dba" section of the local business magazine.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.  I got the axe after 23 successful years as an auto industry supplier.

What did you do as an "auto industry supplier"? Perhaps theres a business opportunity `hidden` in the skills you acquired while working in the auto-industry.

Also, what are some of your hobbies? What do you really enjoy doing? Post some of those answers here and perhaps we as a group can help get you going in the right direction.

When a person doesn`t know what to do...It`s best to start brainstorming with your  interests, hobbies, ideas or current line of work....

Hi Mark! My name is Erin Peters. I understand your problem. I was a tack coat truck driver (road contruction). I didn`t lose my job, but it`s def. frustrating to be laid off every winter. Scraping by was always a problem. I`ve seen a lot of posts by that cartess3 guy and he really makes sense. Anyways, yes it`s getting harder for tradesmen every day. I, like millions of others turned to Network Marketing (MLM). Doesn`t everyone want to stay home and earn while they sleep? No brainer. This has really worked for me, but it`s not for the faint of heart. 95% of people who try it fail. It does take effort. So many people get discouraged b/c 1.)they think they`re all scams 2.)they aren`t motivated enough 3.) if it doesn`t make them money the same day they give up. Since you know about cars and stuff, maybe you could start an online store. You might get lucky and find a parts distributor that dropships. Just a thought. Anyways, there are TONS of opportunities online, you just have to weed out the bad ones.

That can really be difficult to take MWL and sorry you`re going through it.  I worked for Chevron (now ChevronTexaco) for almost 24 years when Chevron decided to "down size".  Although I was not laid off, I did decide to take the "package" so a newer employee would not lose his job.  So, I understand what you`re going through.

Anyway, if you`d like to check out what I`m doing for a home business please click the links here: Secondary Business, Primary Business1 and Primary Business2.

Good Luck in what ever you decide to do MWL.

Hey guys... I`m kind of new to the blog and site but not the podcast... and i`m putting off setting up this elliptical machine... Mark i`m in Michigan so i hear a lot of what you`re going through. I have a few soon-to-be uncle in-laws that took the packages but secured their own businesses before the mess hit the fan.

However, in your case... i ahve to side with cartess and ask you some questions... what is it that you want? what is it that you are seeking? What do you like to do? MLM can be easy if you know how to sell a dream or if you are good with words and type up a webpage that sells for you. I tried my hat at MLM type sites and made about 150 - 200 a wk with four sites. So there is money to be made there.

I`m jam packed with ideas that make other people money, it`s kind of funny because i swear i can charge for the ideas and brainstormings that i do. If only people ran with them... hmmmmmm.... I have a good one that you can possibly look into... especially living in MI and i assume you know a lot of "New business" starters that may also find themselves in the same boat.

Well, how can you be of service to these people? Think about it... How can you provide a service to the handy-men/ women and the contractors and the lawn care professionals? It`s a guaranteed market and a great niche... At first they won`t be able to pay much so be careful with pricing but do not devalue your services.

Let me know if you want to brainstorm or something I`m new here and will be in and out... Good luck in MI from MI...
