Hi everyone- I have a website that needs some pointers, www.myappliancetech.com
Please give your immediate impression. If possible, answer these questions (if not all, some)
1. Is the site too busy? Too many things on one page?
2. How are the colors?
3. Would you call for service? Why, not?
4. Do you still have questions after viewing the site?
5. When you see a 800 number, do you assume it is not local?
6. If your appliance (washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc.) broke down, where is the first place that you`d look for repair (yellowpages book, yellowpages.com or google)? If you looked online, what would you type to find a service company?

Any advice is fine with me. I am thinking about revising it again (ie. adding a faqs, less pictures, change color, smaller fonts, etc.), but wanted some feedback first.

Thanks

Tough to stand out in appliance service business.  Reference to BBB or trade association would help.  Good luck.

I would call on your business for service!

Tips other folks have given me--tips that have worked for me:

Home page is too busy for my taste.  Keep the home page simple but eye-catching and inviting.  Since you provide personal services, show a nice photograph of you and your staff on your home page.  Folks trust people and faces more than just a web site.

In terms of people finding you, you need some good SEO.  Because you probably don`t provide service in the Keys, for example, regionalizing your site would be a great help (e.g., by cities).  You need to rank ahead of all those "business services" sites that aggregate business offerings by topic and location (and/or pay to be included in them).  It`s easy to rank ahead of them, though--with good SEO and soak time for you pages as they become indexed--because the specificity of your page content will eventually outrank their more general content (in my experience).

Good luck.

Jay,

My first impression of your website is that is unprofessional. You`re going in the right direction but I`d change a few things to make it look better.

You`re navigation: Black text on Gray background doesn`t work. Try a lighter gray like silver, or steel.

Your logo`s green button is way too florescent and makes it look unprofessional. Try a different less intense green unless you have already branded that. The green text in the logo also, doesn`t match the button which, makes it look awkward. Since I`m on the logo, I would also make the font less computery and more logo like. The `My` font makes it awkward. Lastly, your logo should link to your homepage.

What`s with the survey link all the way on the right? Makes it look out of place.

Your left navigation picture layout is nice, but the pictures should be linked to the same spot the text titles are.

I would not put your email address at the bottom for SPAM reasons. Most people are familiar with the full company name and a copyright there. I would stay with that standard. Instead list your email address on your contact page, or make it into an email form to avoid more spam.

Make your 800 number at the top into text not picture. It messed with my font resizing since I have a high resolution screen and it changes the consistency of the fonts.

Your blog link shouldn`t be active unless your going to maintain your blog. You should have a blog post at least once a month, at most two.

Overall you need to focus on consistency of your website. I would also want to see an About Us page somewhere on your site to explain your credentials. How many years have you been in business etc.

Some pages need more information. Don`t fluff it, but you shouldn`t have a page with just 3-4 sentences (that`s pointless).

I`d probably save your site if I was looking for your type of service. If you reworked your site and had the graphics look a little more professional, I`d probably call you after visiting for more information. Perception is everything.

It must be a pain to update all those pages individually. You should try redoing your site in a web-based CMS so things are easier to manage. It`ll also help you tremendously with SEO.

Regards

Hey Jay,

I have just visited your site and it`s not that bad after all. I would suggest changing your navigation bar by designing it to make it look great for the costumers. I also suggest moving your contact number in your header to "contact us" so that your header looks neat. And also having the header a whole 1 image instead putting several images. It is also helpful to use your side panel to maximize your body content.
