Hi, I started this site about 3 months ago.  It is my first website.  Basically it is a general information site that is all about wine, wine tasting, cooking with wine, etc.

My strategy is to build up a solid amount of good useful content, keep building links and traffic, etc, and try to drive traffic to my affiliates through my wine club, wine racks, and wine gifts pages.

I already know that my domain name is terrible.  I'm working in a really broad catagory here, but I'm looking for a better domain name.

What I really need is an honest critique of the look and feel, and the writing content, specifically on my selling pages (all pages under "wine gifts").

My conversion rate on these pages is terrible (like .2%) and I'm wondering if my writing is bad, or if I'm not getting enough targeted traffic (keywords bad?) or what.

Any help here is much appreciated.  Here is a link: www.wine-in-a-glass.com

Thanks, Matt

Loren

Well,  when I see an SBI site I know instantly.  Apparently some SBI people make more money promoting SBI from their sites than the original product they intended to sell.

I'm jaded, but I think SBI sites look dated.

I'm assuming you're relying on SEO positioning for traffic... so you're getting a lot of traffic that ostensibly is targeted... being generally interested in wine stuff, but as a practical matter you've got it all mixed together and you're probably getting a lot of real no-never-non-buying traffic in the mix.

"Wine gifts" doesn't leap out at me as the place to go... there are 10 links on top of it... so you've got your money-making pages buried in a sea of content.  It seems to me that under such circumstances most of your visitors aren't even stumbling onto your selling pages.

I don't find your selling pages effective either.

The way your page width jumps around is distracting.  I would stay with a fixed width of 800px and build the whole site that way.

All in all, you've made this like a hobby/enthusiasts site.  That's fine, but if you want to sell stuff you need to make your sales message much more prominent, as in front-and-center.

Thanks for your critique Loren.  I have already rearranged my navigation to make my money pages more prominent; I don't know why I didn't think of that before!

I'm in the process of fitting all my pages into 800px wide; it is annoying how the size changes.

As for my selling pages, I am working on them.  I don't have much experience in writing sales copy, but I have been studying up and I think they are getting better.

I see what you mean about SBI sites looking dated.  I am experimenting with CSS and getting a more professional look to my site...hopefully by next month my site will have a full makeover!

Thanks again, Matt

Name wine-in-a –glass is not a problem to get the businesses for you but you need to make this a brand name using the social media sites and must include the people which are affiliated with the same businesses. This will really help to get better business opportunities.
