It seems like most people I talk to about my business idea look at me funny and then say "But why would someone pay you to do that when they can do it themselves"  Which is silly of course because many, many business are based on things you can do yourself but choose not to.  So what was the most ridiculous comment you recieved when you brought up or bring up your business ideas?

Best example I`ve ever heard of is "dog walker!" LOL! Keep going, Zoomster! The history books are filled with people who were told their idea was dumb, wouldn`t work, made no sense, and most importantly---had no practical application!

Why should I buy a car? I can walk there myself! Why should I hire a plumber? I can do it myself! Why should I go see a doctor? I`ll fix myself! Why should I get pre-cooked microwave bacon, I can cook it myself! Why should I hire an accountant, I can do it myself.

Entrepreneurs are those with imagination, and the capability of seeing what ISN`T there...not what is there! If anyone could see what`s missing, then everyone would be doing it. The key to starting a business is exactly that, seeing what people who don`t yet have the imagination can`t yet see.

Very good!  lol.  My type of service has been edorsed by insurance companies, police departments and the National Hurricane Center and yet during all my research I have found fewer than 10 percent actually have done this and when those ten percent have, they did an incomplete job of it.  My plan is to go back and do a freebie for my nay saying neighbor and show them what the final product will be, they will change their minds I am sure of it.

Zoom on.

Corporate Prospect: "My Uncle can tape it."

Me: "Do your uncles videos look and sound like what you see when you watch TV?"

Prospect: "No."

Me: "Do you want your video to look and sound like it could be on TV?"

Prospect: "Yes"

Me: "Does your competitions` videos look more like your uncle shot it or like it could be on TV?"

Prospect: "Like TV....  Ohhhhh..... good point....."

Me: "Let me show you how we can create real value for you with this....."

Your situation, it seems, is it`s one of those things that you just show the value how you make it so much easier - think about those new "Use a Realtor" commercials out that talk about the value a realtor gives in selling a home as opposed to doing it yourself.

Dear Mr. Kuechenberg:

In this age of hyper-specialization, your neighbor appears to be a bit out of touch,as you point out.  But your story demonstrates that even great ideas need effective marketing and sales strategy to be successful.  All customers make a purchase because they are moved to believe that it brings value to their lives, that it is worth the money.

When a client suggests that they could file their own trademark application, for example, or draft and negotiate their own venture funding deal, I typically say, "Best of luck, but your time is worth more than my fee."

Warm regards,
