As some of you know, I`m no fan of Twitter. Apparently, I`m not alone in that regard. Here`s an interesting article  about why you shouldn`t Twitter.

Thanks for the link, David :)

I couldn`t agree more with this article especially #1. If I had a $1 for every time someone has asked me if I tweet I would be a millionaire. It takes a lot more than 140 words to describe my business. By not tweeting I can devote my time to better things.

No problem, Kathy. I also agree with the author - although it`s hardly a secret around here how I feel about Twitter, right?

All valid points.  I still think for startups and web 2.0/3.0 where there`s much more a focus on being in touch with clients and having an open dialogue it`s not so bad.  Sure you don`t have to tweet what you are eating for lunch, but I`ll often throw up articles and podcasts and other blogs that I found useful.  People who follow me are interested in absorbing as much information about the world of startups and venture capital as possible.  It`s paid off well for me, may people have found me through Twitter and become clients.

I don`t know why there is so much discussion about why you shouldn`t twitter.  It`s almost like  telling you why you shouldn`t spend time on forums.  Yes you can find great information on forums especially Sun.  But as Chris said the people that follow him are interested in absorbing as much information as they can. And they found him on twitter.  Obviously the five million members on twitter find something of value in it.

I think many people are on twitter for different reasons. First let me agree with you, twitter can waste your time in life and I see how it does for many.  Literally there are people on their all day and night like a chat session and I honestly can`t see how they get anything else done.

Okay criticising the 140, hey I didn`t get it all either at first.  But let me tell you what I see.  I have no desire, or time to spend hours on twitter, or on Sun for that matter.  Just like Sun, I check in occasionally if I have a few moments free while I am on the computer.  As time consuming as twitter sounds, because there are only quick 140 tweets, it`s easy to scan them and only click on something like a link or article that might interest you. I have found some great information on twitter! I am not there to sell jerky on twitter, nor here on Sun.  I have posted a follow on twitter from my site, but that`s not where I`ve seen any customers.  I believe that`s a strong market for marketers, pr, web designers etc.  Except we all know the zappos.com that uses it for complete access for their customer service has worked very well for them.  Also we see large companies are using twitter, but I have no idea if it`s working for them.

As I have always found great info here and have met great friends in business here, I feel the same has happened for me on twitter. But I always come back to check out my favorite place Sun that I`ve been hanging around for years!

I think it should be, each to their own. We all need to find value in what we do and a reason for doing it.  But if it`s working for someone they should,  alternatevely if they`re about to get caught up in their biggest time waster....be aware.

As I quickly scan twitter, I always stop to check my Sun friends tweets. :)

See, I can type a whole lot more than 140 too.  Not that you cared to hear it all.  I think I`ll take a peek at twitter before going to bed, and follow Rogue CFO On Twitter .

Night!

Chris, if it`s working for you then obviously you should continue to use it.  The reason I posted the article is because there are a million articles out there telling people why they should Twitter.

It`s actually refreshing to come across an article every once in a while that plays "devil`s advocate" and tells people why they shouldn`t Twitter. It helps balance things out a little.

Wow Janie
Janie said: I don`t know why there is so much discussion about why you shouldn`t twitter.

There is one link above that takes you to an article which is your choice whether to read it or not. On SuN there hasn`t been that many posts on why you shouldn`t twitter and as SuN is an open forum it is really up to the individual whether they post or not. If Twitter works for you and others then more power to you but agree that it is refreshing to see an article that balances thing out.

Janie said: But let me tell you what I see.  I have no desire, or time to spend hours on twitter, or on Sun for that matter

You have said in previous posts that you don`t spend as much time on SuN because you have got caught up in Twitter and said it is hard finding a balance.

Janie said: See, I can type a whole lot more than 140 too.  Not that you cared to hear it all.

Wow Janie your post is very judgmental.

Oh Kathy, come on.  I still happen to be up and checked back here.  How is my post judgemental???  I said each to there own! I am not judging anything that anyone wants to do, to either interact with others or engage in ways to benifit their business.

I never said I left Sun due to twitter, it is just another avenue. I did read the article,... a great insightful article.  But there seem to be several people saying "don`t twitter". I say do what works for you or what you enjoy. And as I said, it can be a complete waste of time if you spend your time trying to tweet for your advantage.

Let` s get back to... why would you be here, why would you go there?  I`m really not sure why you are  attacking what I said.  It was just a little joke about how I can type more than 140 too and not that you cared to hear it.  Just meant I got in my typing and  expressing mode.

There should be no debate here.  All I am trying to say is twitter is just another community.  I enjoy it also.  Okay?
