OK, looking for some advice from the search engine marketing experts.

I know there is some discussion as to the wisdom of optimizing (ie, attempting to generate external links directing toward) your home page vs optimizing a different page (product page or popular info page, for instance). From what I hear, generally the latter option tends to be more popular.

My question is a little different:

I`m a couple months away from having a book I recently wrote (about tax topics for sole proprietors) being available on Amazon. Now, I`ll have a page on my site that is designed to market the book as well. But all potential buyers are simply going to be directed to the book`s page on Amazon.

So, which page to optimize? The marketing page on my site, where I can completely control the content? Or the book`s page on Amazon, which is where they`d have to buy it anyway?

Some initial thoughts: Sending them directly to Amazon makes it seem more likely they`d click through to a competing book and buy that one instead. However, I`m a big fan of making the process as simple as possible for the buyer.  Also, a book`s page on Amazon can be a very powerful sales tool (buyer reviews for instance), not to mention the important fact that readers are already familiar with Amazon and comfortable buying there.

So, anybody else with thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks ahead of time,

Mike

I think you should redo your home page to reflect your current products and point people in the right direction.

Thanks Nikole.  :) I`m definitely planning to update the home page to include information once my offering expands beyond regular tax prep. Just to be sure I understand, your vote is to update homepage significantly enough to then use it as the main marketing page (and thus as the best page to link to)?

Anybody else with varying opinions or suggestions?

Yes, that is what I am saying.

Because your existing marketing is all about your front page. So it`s easier and more effective to refunnel your front page than it is to relink the 130 results I am getting on google for "pipertax.com".

That way you can tap into your current search engine results with each new campaign you do.

I don`t think you`re going to have much choice in what Amazon does. But you surely can build your own site`s visibility, not to mention push up the sales numbers on your own. I`d focus on getting yourself more visible, so optimize your site.

I`m kind of with Nikole too, that your site could use some pizazz. :-) Y`know? People read "tax information," and right away fall into a coma. Self-employed people are even more narcoleptic. Couldn`t you brighten up the place and sell the idea that tax stuff doesn`t have to be drudgery?
