traffic is more important for a website than a page rank. page rank is merely a Google algorithm to which helps you in estimating the quality of your site. this is purely a google algorithm. where as traffic is what help to find out your site contains. whether your site is quality, useful. traffic helps you to determine how your site is popular and how many people loves to visit your site including the repeated members. so its better to concentrate more on site traffic than on page rank. my site is getting very good traffic in spite my page rank low. i got help from XnYnZ.com to get my site traffic increased.

I think both are equally important factors for any website.  If you have high traffic volume and quality backlinks then you provided page rank from Search engine.  

Generate more traffic of your site you can submit your sites in directories, do classified submission, blog commenting, forum posting, blog creation. Traffic is more important for visibility of your site in search engines.

Page rank is highly depended from your backlinks, choose high pr sites for link building and get quality backlinks from those sites. So, if your site pr is good then it is considered as a good website.

Actually both of them are interconnected. When the traffic increases on the web site, the PR also increases automatically because PR of the website depends upon the traffic received by the website.

PR and traffic are equally important from my point of view. As traffic help in generating lead and PR helps of perception. I do agree with this statement but it becomes bit difficult to get a good traffic and good PR in a very competitive niche.
