In my opinion, they`re both important, but in different ways. Let me explain:

If you`re selling a product or service, it is much more important to attract laser-targeted traffic to your website, so in that regard, page rank is not as important.

On the other hand, buyers of previously-owned domain names and websites often look at page rank to determine a website`s value, so in that regard PR is very important.

Anyway, that`s my opinion. What do you think?

PR is over valued. It is best not to focus on PR, what PR you have now, or will have in the future. PR is not a realtime measure of a website`s popularity or importance.

Content is king  and it can both generate traffic and increase site rank / popularity.

PageRank is important in building traffic because you are listed higher without paying for it.

But in the end, traffic is going to get you the sales you want.

I don`t think one is more important than the other. I just know that these things should not be your main focus - focus on your product and your message first.

I think this is like asking, "Which is more important---having a car, or having a destination in mind?"

While I agree that page rank is overrated,  it still holds value in the minds of many individuals. And as I stated in my opening post, buyers of previously-owned domain names and websites often look at page rank to determine a website`s value, so in that regard PR is very important.

What a buyer believes, and what`s reality don`t necessarily have much to do with each other. If someone believes page-ranking is crucial, no argument is likely going to convince them to not buy a site. People do what they want, mostly, and often with little regard to what`s useful, valuable, or even realistic.

Page rank, or..., what page, are you on, in Google search?   I use to be very
interested in page rank until I noticed the majority of sites in our business
are all ranked the same. What I am interested in, is the page that you can
find us, when searching for our keywords. Keywords, good content, and
good one way links seem to have more to do with that. But who really
knows what google`s doing. :) It always changes.

Traffic is important. The easier you are found, the more traffic you will get.
And hopefullly more traffic converts to more sales!

If I was going to purchase a site, I would want to be able to find it easily.

Actually, what a person perceives to be true is reality to him or her. After all, perception is reality.

what page, are you on, in Google search?

Well, since you asked, I`m on page one for my main keyword term,:" internet marketing help."

And I`m near the top of page two for another of my keyword phrases, internet marketing expert."

I rank #1 for the keyword phrase," free sales copy evaluation."

I also rank at or near the top for dozens of other keyword phrases as well.

The real question is, is there someone out there who really looks up "free sales copy evaluation"?

I occasionally look at the Google traffic for my site, and the keywords that are used ("business essentials", "marketing brainstorming", "behavior targeted advertising", "going green in business", "networking", "copywriting", etc).

But for the most part, Google traffic is not terribly important for me. It`s not a great indicator of my success. I`m pretty much an accidental PR5.
