Where to hire older people? AARP

We are looking to hire additional people to work in sales for our company.  I recently had a conversation with a colleague of mine from business school who suggested I go on the AARP web site and look at hiring people from the "Over 50" crowd.

I think hiring older people is a fantastic idea since they often have some relevant work experience, need less training, and tend to be more loyal.  Another advantage for us is that our target market is filled with people who are 50-70 years old. If anything, I don`t think a 22 year old who is fresh out of college would be a suitable hire.

I browsed through the AARP forum and read countless threads of people complaining about being passed up for a promotion or unfairly downsized. Even though our country has regulations in place to prevent age discrimination, the fact is that it still happens.

Where should we look at finding people who are in the "Over 50"/ AARP crowd?  Does anybody have any experience in doing this?

I think the over fifty crowd is all over the place, the problem you may have is the amount of payment they expect and probably deserve.
I know at this moment several maybe 5 that are "temping" because they are having such trouble finding stable jobs that pay enough to maintain their lifestyle.
being less than a year from 50 myself I`ve chosen a different path starting my own deal.
if I were you I`d start looking at the temp agencies, then walk around, visit walmart, kmart, mcdonalds, I`d bet thats where the ones that can`t get a temp gig end up. Home depot and lowes are also places to find overquailfied workers.
sorry if this sounds a bit pissy but I am only a few months away from 50.
 check the forums of monster, career builder they have older specific BB not unlike this one.

There`s an organization I keep hearing about, in the Chicago area (but I think it`s national). They`re promoting the whole concept of older workers being better for a lot of reasons. They`re associated with AARP but not part of that organization.

It`s becoming a big deal, at least around here, because with the Baby Boomers retiring there`s a growing skills gap, together with a work-ethic change. Then there`s the increased lifespan, and the fact that 65 isn`t at all what it used to be when reitrement age was introduced.

Now if anyone knows the name of this organization, that`d be good. :-) (You know us old folks and CRS....)
