I`ve been trying to locate mentors who work in the Title Company industry.  Especially with Title Abstracting.  These are people who hang out in Auditor`s Offices to assist Title Companies. With my genalogical history background I sometimes spend a lot of time looking at records I am sure a Title Abstractor would review.   It seems my skills could be turned around to work with Title research, question is how.  Is there a place or maybe a website where people list what industrieis they are willing to be mentor and/or other industries without thinking I was going to take their business!  That is not my character!  Very frustrated!

Have you checked with a SCORE office in your area?

I was going to recommend them too. This is a great program for veteran executives to work with you closely.

Yes, I am aware of SCORE.   I communicated (in writing) to SCORE but to be honest - I didn`t get the warm & fuzzies from the answers.  I wish the closest office was not in downtown Cleveland.  I wish there was a local office in the Toledo area.  I live half way between Cleveland & Toledo.   I am not fond of driving in downtown Cleveland in any season of the year.  I was hoping that a SCORE representative would meet me 1/2 way.

I took time off to visit my local SCORE office and am afraid I was dissapointed. It seemed like more of an "Old Boys Club" the men I spoke to were more than happy to share their war stories but had little to suggest for business in today`s world. I was assigned to a pair in charge of business plans, they gave answers to my questions but didn`t guide me to other things to think about. They spent a good deal of time letting me know that they couldn`t write my business plan... didn`t want, or expect this of them. Questions that went beyond their area of "expertise" should be asked in another visit.

While there were several people drinking their morning coffee, I only got to speak to 2 of the volunteers, since they all had different specialties I would have liked to spend some time asking questions with the other "experts".  The office was not busy, so I was non-plussed at their attitude.

They did give their kudos to my work stating that I had most of what I needed, it ended in an invitation for another visit at the same low-no charge.

I had 2 quite productive meetings with SCORE... not in terms of end results necessarily... but it was good to have someone give me an hour of their time to listen very attentively and ask good questions.

To explain my business plan to someone from start to finish is good practice and helps me see where my holes are.

I know I`m lacking because I don`t have a (formal) written business plan, but in the mean time -- it was very beneficial and I moved in a positive direction in several areas of my business as a result of it.
