I recently read a great idea for getting top-notch sales people. Sorry I can`t remember where I read this, and it does deserve credit.

Take an ad in the paper saying you are looking for top sellers and the maximum they can probably make if they work hard. Ideally this is a pretty high number. Give the contact information, then make it pretty hard for them to actually get through to you, when they call make them "sell" themselves to you in 30 seconds then let them hang. See if they follow up. The ones that do are the ones you want.

If you want to find Great Sales people, place an ad in 2 or 3 different places that states something similar to this:

"Fast paced company seeking Business Development Super Stars. With a very competitve base( if there is one) + Unlimited commisions you can expect to earn what you believe your worth! This position will only be open for 30 days. Apply Now!"

Sales people love to hear phrases like "Super Star" and  "earn what your worth". They also don`t neccessarily like to be called sales people. So if you use terms like "Business Development" or "New Business Specialist" you will attract higher quality people. I hope this information helps. If you have any qestions please feel free to contact me directly.

Good advice here. We`ve been struggling with finding quality sales people as well. Most people want a cushy job and instant customers. They forget that they have to work to get the income.

One entrpreneur told me last year that he hires sales people on a W-4/contractor basis and if they don`t work out in a few weeks he lets them go and hires another. He said he`s been through about 100 people just to find 5-10 quality people for his business (office supplies).

You can post your positions for free on a number of websites including my own www.TemporarEase.com, craigslist.com,  oodle.com , Backpage.com.

I actually started the site for small companies like ours to post jobs for free so give it a shot. I would appreciate feedback though. Good and Bad since I am not a web guy by any means but if I can improve it for all of us I will in any way I can.

There are also a few referral networks out there that have started up but I am unsure of costs etc.

Have you asked everyone in the office for three names of potential people looking for a sales position, or offered a finders fee to the person in the office that refers someone that you do hire? Let’s say $500-$1500 after the 90th day of employment. It’s a great way to give incentives to your employees and help your search. Usually they are your greatest spokes people too!

Thanks for the info.  Here`s my feedback:  I posted the job then realized I needed to make a correction.  However, I could not save my changes.  There was no save button/option in the edit window.  Just the option to close the window.  Other than that, it looks pretty good and pretty easy to use.
