Actually, PayPal does have an automatic return - no clicking needed by the customer (and no PayPal account is required either).

No special coding required on my part (web designer), easy installation with Zen Cart - just click to use it. Also click a couple of options in the merchant`s PayPal profile.

It only auto-returns if you are a PayPal customer.

If you are not, they want to sell you on their stuff. So you end up staying there.

It also won`t post data back to the original site on an auto-return.

Also, this doesn`t help you with Google Checkout.

Sorry, Nikole... that used to be the situation but not anymore.

If you use PayPal and are not a member not only do you not have to register, you can go back to the site. Also PayPal can post back to the site on auto-return.  Using PayPal IPN (instant payment notice) with Zen Cart.

I`ve just set this all up on a new site Golf Lesson Academy. I`ll be setting up the Google checkout next.

From the PayPal site:

Note: If you have turned on Auto Return and have chosen to turn on PayPal Account Optional for new users, a new user will not be automatically directed back to your website, but will be given the option to return.

Most people, if just given the option, will just close the window. (Why would they go back? Their purchase is complete.) At this point, their payment is not verified and their product is not shipped.
