Kristen -

A belated "Hi!" back at you!  Great to see you here.

I`ve been a bit scarce around here as I`ve been finishing my new book.  This past week has been completely nuts - ending nearly a year of work since my contract was signed.  My editor emailed me this afternoon that she had sent the proof of the final design off via UPS.  I`ll have until next Friday to make any changes or corrections - and then the sucker goes off to the printer.  Looks like an October release date.

I think I`m ready for some therapy now...

Aww Jeff I am so proud of you!

You are so driven and it is all certainly paying off. Plus I`m glad we got to "meet" through my book!

Get some therapy. The "laying on the couch" kind or the good old "retail" kind!

Hi Kristen, I see you do resume writing. I work for a resume company as well. I was wondering off topic if you need any certification to do resumes on your own?

Thanks!  Actually getting together with a gaggle of graphic designers up in Seattle this weekend to relax and celebrate a bit.  We all "met" on Internet graphic design forums.  I`ve met quite a few in person in recent years - but I`ve had online relationships with some of the people attending since 1998 and I`ve never met them face-to-face.

I wish I could meet more people. I think I am good at doing that online and then when it comes to doing anything in person, I kind of freak. I`m so used to meeting people at "work" and then that stopped.

I need to make more of an effort. Course you have the cool HOW forum and most copywriters aren`t as...cool. Nor do we really have an online hub. I think I`m better interacting with creatives of all types:)

Hi CollegeCoach,

Generally, most major publishing house won’t look at your book unless it comes through an agent.  Most agents won’t look at your book unless you already have had a book published.  This catch 22 is why a lot of writers have turned to Publish On Demand (POD) publishing houses.  Or, what used to be called “vanity press.”  There are some very reputable POD companies and others that just want your money.  They don’t care how well or bad your book is as long as you fork over the money to get it into print.

As far as weather or not your book will be taken seriously, that depends on how well written the book is.  A gentleman in Northern Nevada for instance tried to get major publishing house to print his book “Barnstorming Cowboy.”  Every publishing house turned it down.  He self published and self promoted his book for about a year.  The book did so well that several publishing house bid to publish the book from then on.

Go to WritersWeekly .com.   They have lots of information on self publishilng.
