not because the prefix number is automatically correlated with your company & products info.

I thought the original intent was the prefix represents the company, and the rest of the digits the particular product item within your company?

In the music world, some CD duplicating shops are letting customers use their barcode #s (same prefix, different rest of the digits).

Of course, once it`s entered in a store`s database it doesn`t matter what company/prefix# it came from. Is this what you mean?

You are right. The prefix number does correlate with the original company`s information.
Buying from a reselling company is similar to your CD example.
I`m just stating the fact that if you are a smaller company and you don`t have over a hundred or so products, it is much easier and cost effective to go through a reseller like us.
The only place your prefix number is cataloged is in GS1-US`s system.
So why would any smaller company pay those high priced fees if they can do it for less?

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Yes I agree the initial cost is too high if you only have a few products to barcode.

I did several CD packaging designs for a small label/publisher and they had their own UPC even though their individual unique product items are less than 10. It seems a waste/expensive but I can also understand their position.

I will be getting a package of 11 barcodes from you once things settle down a bit here.  And this is a ONE-TIME payment only, right?

Yes indeed. It is a one-time cost to you, no hidden fees, no set-up cost. I`ll be looking forward to doing business with you.

Best,
