I have been trying to find an affordable, yet good accounting program.  The only two that seem to meet my needs are Peachtree, and Quickbooks.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I think both of these software packages are good - I`ve used both for small business clients when I was in public (accounting) practice.

By far Quick Books has to be the best one out there.
I use Quick Books Primier. It`s about 500 bucks but trust me it is worth it. You can print quotes, Invoices, estimates, and all that good stuff.

Thanks, for your help.  I was looking to purchase Quick Books premier, but 500 dollars intimidated me for something I didn`t have any way to judge it`s worth.

Do you know if QuickBooks Premier is good for managing contractors?

Yes, its good for managing contractors, vendors, Subcontractors and so forth. I think if you are not ready for Quick Books premier start with Quickbooks Pro It goes for around $199.99.
It is very useful, and I like all the features it has to offer. I wouldn`t change it at all. It has helped me alot.

Peachtree is usually for large or mid-sized companies, atleast thats what I heard. Quickbooks is a good choice. I would suggest buying it from Sams Club, they have low prices on the newest versions (which is not really important as most of the older versions are very adequate and less pricier). You can also look for it on ebay, as many sellers sell the academic version which is at a discounted price (and no functionality is lost). But yes, I would also suggest quickbooks pro rather than premier if your needs aren`t that big.

Aaron,
When I was in process of purchasing my copy, it did cross my mind to go with Quick Books Online. But I reverted that thought, because theres a monthly $19.99 commitment. What would happen if for some strange reason you want to cancel it? How is Intuit, going to give you your information. Id rather make the purchase and know that it`s paid for.
39.95 x 12 months equal = 479.40. Thats close to what you pay for it anyways. So what if I can access it from anywhere.. I`m pretty sure you`re going to have your computer with you at all times. But who is to say you are going to have a Network connection or wifi?
Id rather invest in the Actual Pogram.. At least I know that if I have my computer, I can always fire it up anywhere.. and get what I need...

I am part of Microsofts Beta Tester team and monday I recieved the Beta copy of Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2007. It ROCKS! I would definately recommend MS Small Business Accounting 2006 (or 2007 when it is officially released) to any small business. If you are familiar with using Outlook and the rest of the MS Office suite, it will come to you naturally. Best Wishes!
