And which of them have succeeded despite themselves?

We`ve all run across them; maybe your own company is based on a "bad" idea that worked, and you can fill us in on how and why.

Who`s on first?

Well 15 years ago, maybe more, I started seeing bottled water in convenient stores and thought to myself  "Nobody with at least half a brain would ever pay for water".  Upon reflection it seems I was the one with half a brain.  Crazy.  I wonder what my grandparents think of that.  Vast prosperity allows many flawed ideas to become successes.

I think it was in the mid to late 70`s, way before the recent "in" toys were Tickle Me Elmo and Bratz dolls, there was the bizarre business idea of Pet Rocks.  Sure it was a fad but they were popular for a season or two.

I got a bad case of the hoo-boys the first time I saw cooked "pancakes" packaged and sold in the dairy section.

Immediately "Cryogenic Suspension" comes to mind. The market is cooling down - but solid as a rock!

Nine months ago I was looking for new business idea and I wandered - if people buy clean water, why they can`t buy pure air? They consume air 10 times more than water... So I was looking for the way to selll air and now I`m eraning $7.000 monthly in this business, just in 9 months! And my sales will grow 3 times in next 6 months, I`m sure :)

I have posted this idea here http://www.startupnation.com/pages/community/forum_posts.asp ?TID=4537&get=last#43777

Hey bmaster,
Your link doesn`t seem to work. So you sell clean air? I`m curious...

This topic makes me think of Office Space...that movie so rocks!

Tom Smykowski
: It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.
Michael Bolton: That`s the worst idea I`ve ever heard in my life, Tom.
Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

All ideas seem bizarre in the beginning.
