Sarah -

I visited the Wee Bush in Carnwath and it is like a shrine to Robert Burns.

Of course, I had to pinch an authentic Tennent`s Lager pint glass with the Robert Burns signature on it.

I`ve eaten rosted grasshoppers, but the worst has got to be cow brain in a taco.

I`m not afraid to try new food.

I`ve eaten ants.

I was so engrossed in an Aussie rules football match and reached in the cuboard for a bag of Twisties (Aussie Cheese Crispy Snack) and had all but finished the packet when I looked and it was full of ants.

I`ve made calf brains at my dad`s request using a recipe by Thomas Keller, pretty well acknowledged as the country`s best chef. His cooking mentor taught him that a true chef can make delicious things from offal, an awful name that refers to the innards and other "variety meats" including feet, ears, jowls and other leftover parts that used to be eaten only by creative poor folks. Everything else, this master chef said, was just "warming things up."

The brains were a real pain to clean, but they were a hit. And my old man told me it was about time I got some.

You want strange and nasty?

Try the MRE`s Tuna with Noodles. I once opened a pack at home and decided against it. There was a stray cat hanging around my house at the time so I thought I`d be nice. I placed the tuna with noodles in a dish and placed it outside for the hungry little kitten.

Never saw the cat again. The tuna with noodles was still there. Got to tell you about some things the military will serve you.

Anyways, I`ve eaten black snake at Camp Lejeune while I was stationed there the first time. We were in the field on a training exercise and my fireteam caught one. We didn`t have anything better to do so we filleted him, cooked him, and ate him.

Of course someone else did the cooking there too. It wasn`t bad. People say snake tastes like chicken but I have to say it reminded me of lobster. Kinda rubbery with a charcoal aftertaste. Didn`t particularly care for it so I figured the tuna with noodles would have to win out in that situation if I had to survive for myself.
