Just wondering about a few issues lately. Maybe it`s just growing pains but I have noticed the following:

Last week the entire site was down for the afternoon.

The Marketplace link to the main page doesn`t work since last week and is still not operational.

And finally there seems to be a ton of spam topics on the website. I know that Joel used to try to keep up with it and delete them. Who is doing it now? I thought that possibly the SuN ambassadors might keep an eye on it but not sure. We hardly see them anymore.

I really like SuN and was just wondering what is going on.

SuN ambassadors have no ability to remove spam or change anything posted by others in any way.

As James says, SuNBassadors don`t have the ability to remove or change posts. However, we do monitor and report abuse when we see it. While we do hope the offending posts are modified swiftly the SuNBassadors actually have no way of effectively measuring abuse response time.

StartupNation has always been a site with a thoughtful community of people contributing great quality posts, which imho is the reason it`s so successful! If the spammers are gaining then we shall have to be a little more diligent in this area. I`ll initiate a discussion on this in the SuNBassadors Forum.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kathy. Being a long-standing, contributing community member, you should know better than many! And somebody should listen. I imagine that for every member that states concerns like this, there are probably 1000 others who remain silent but are thinking the same thing.

Thanks for the info and help.  I see that the Marketplace link works now. Probably just some growing pains.

Kathy,

thanks for the check in!

we had a server problem on the 23rd - that day the site was barely functioning unfortunately. we`re doing our best to ensure that that problem does not occur again. it`s a huge site managed by few and the complexities sometimes make it difficult to ensure 100% operating time. though that`s our goal, we missed our goal for sure that day. nonetheless, we served 340,000 page views between the 23rd and 24th, which is a lot of value to entrepreneurs!

regarding the Marketplace, it`s about to be replaced with a new "classifieds" offering. hope you received friday`s newsletter which foreshadowed this switchover as of January 12.

lastly, regarding spam posts, joel`s been on vacation and we`re doing our best covering for him! he`s back in action on Monday.

your vigilance is always appreciated.

here`s to your success in 2009!

Rich

Thanks Rich for the update. I really appreciate it.

Normally I get the Newsletter but didn`t get last Friday`s. Is the info on the "classifieds" somewhere else on the site? I will do some digging and see if I can find it.

It`s nice to know I`m missed!

1 of my vacation highlights was watching 12 deer walk along the icy Lake Michigan beach in front of our family home. We don`t get to see them that up close & personal during the summer.

Of course, that parade was happening while I was on a conference call regarding our newsletter deliverability issues - no way to completely shut down from the SuN community!

Speaking of newsletters, we are working through some of those issues and hope to have everything resolved very soon. My apology to those of you who may not have been receiving the Thursday newsletter recently. I`ll post an update once everything is straightened out.

YES, we are preparing to launch some super cool & significant enhancements to the site next week. Check out this announcement post for highlights

Spam posts: I delete posts and ban the offending accounts daily. If you see one before I get to it, please click on the Report Abuse link & send me an alert. I`m pretty good about noticing the spam that are brand new topics. But it`s more of a challenge for me to see all of the comment posts on existing topics that might also be spam. So keep those alerts coming.
