Amen. IE 7.0 sucks, but my bank hasn`t yet updated their code to talk to Firefox, so I have to keep the stupid thing around just to check my balances, etc. Idiots.
I love Firefox.
Roland - that`s correct. That`s why my site was built and tested for cross-platform compatibility. But that still doesn`t make IE 7.0 suck any less.
It doesn`t mean you give up.
It means you keep trying until the minority becomes the majority.
The numbers are already climbing ...
And what bank only works on IE? My money would be elsewhere if I couldn`t get it on my mac.
Wait, I thought IE 7.0 is the Firefox killer? :-) <heh heh...>
One thing I`m using is an extension to FF that puts a "View this page
in IE" option on the context menu (right-click menu). For banks and
such, I can go to the address in FF. If it doesn`t work, I don`t have
to retype anything.
But I think what you`re paying for isn`t really cross-platform
compatibility. That`s pretty much a given for any credible Web
developer. Instead, you`re paying for the elegance of CSS, such things
as scripting, validation, and compact code.
On the other hand, as I`m learning more about CSS, I`m seeing that just
because "tables" are considered passé, that doesn`t mean it`s true. I
see good and useful places for using tables, just as I see certain
limits in CSS. The best solution is to use each feature to it`s best
capabilities.
So another thing you`re paying for is someone who can see when to use
what sort of tool to accomplish the most work with the least effort (in
code or layout).
While we`re at it, if I come across one more site where the designer thinks Flash == Web I`m going to scream. If your website is an <insert favourite color> background with a huge flash object in the middle then I`m NOT going to bother trying to use your site.
