So my #3 son has decided that he needs to be earning as
much as his 2 older brothers (he`s 13, but going on 40). Last
year he offered a service to the School teachers at his school to
transfer their home movies from VHS to DVD. He got a lot of
orders but being so young charged a minimal fee for this
service. Well he has now been bitten by the entreprenurial bug
and is looking into setting up a website to offer this service, we
are not sure how much to charge for this service. Any input
would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Way to go, Sarah!  Remember that poll awhile back............is the entrepreneurial spirit genetic or environmental?  Whatever the case.......you seem to have  passed it on!

For Christmas two years ago, we had old family photos and video transferrred to a DVD with music and text.  A bit more involved than a straight video to DVD transfer. We paid $199 for the service. It was well worth it, and apparently a very popular service.  The gal who did it for us has a several week lead time due to high client volume.

Tracy,
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully a few more people will let
me know their thoughts too. He is planning on using
photographs. He did put the DVD`s to music and not to be
biased but for a kid he did a damn good job!
Cheers

I believe $20 per hour make sense to me. However, if they prefer to have him to make a cover, he can charge $6 extra. If they want to have wording on the DVD, he can charge them an extra $8. I do not know much about what else is involved.

Kind of funny, I had this same idea about 2 years ago.  I never did anything with it, it would be pretty great to see a 13 year old run with it though!

For some quick research I did back then, just do a search on google for similar services and see what they charge.

good luck.

While he`s copying movies he could also be scanning old photos. Or if he
really wanted to make money he could recruite his friends to do the work
and just take a cut off the top.

Amazon Is usually good service to get DVD from online but I am not in favor of buying but what you think about those who watch movies online after the official release. Earlier I watch Black Swan and Fast Five movie at online and truly it was great experience. The other reason is that it takes too much cost to buy movie DVD.
