I`m investigating a business idea and thought the StartupNation community could give some insight. I really only want responses from people who currently have or have had an online business.

When I say paying for a referral I`m not talking about paying for clicks. I`m talking about only paying for a referral that results in a sale.

1) Would you consider paying for a referral?

2) How much would you be willing to pay?

3) What is your product or service?

If you are willing to share this information but not in a public forum please respond with a private message.

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

I would be very willing to provide a referral fee on sales made. I would do this for any area of my life. Hire me as a musician, graphic designer, or contract negotiator… (OK, I have less experience at contract negotiations, but have been involved in a couple that turned out nicely.)

Really, I think many of us pay a “referral fee” on nearly all the referrals we get. We just might not notice at first. Once I was pointed in the right direction for a new job from a friend. I got the job. The friend eventually got dinner.

It may not be a cut and dry amount for the referral fee. But you have to show the appreciation to the people helping you achieve your goals.

A fee? Sure. Do you know anyone needing unique interior design items for a new home, move-in gifts for realtor’s selling property, or a lead on fabulous new wholesale items? I never have placed a $$ or % on a referral. I have always just given what I though was fair for the leads I received. Typically, my leads come from friends that don’t expect a ROI. Maybe I should actually write out a plan for referrals.

Short answer? Yes.

Yes, I already do.

Price: depends on the service and the return. Even if I pay for 10 referrals and only 4 result in a sale then I`ve still made my money.

You have to show value and leave plenty of room for your customer to make a profit off of his customer.

This is all subjective because the profit margin for different fields is different.
