I`m thinking of doing some real simple flash on my next site.
Something like this.

BMW

I wondering, what is the oldest version of Flash I can use to do this ?
I have a version of MX 2004, but it`s just not obvious how to do this.
Before I spend too much time I thought I would ask.
Thanks Jeff

I have no evidence, but I would use the most recent. Chances are anyone able to view flash on their browser is updated. But not everyone has or wants to install flash. Please be sure your target market is the type of people that would be up to date.

Yes, I`ll plan for that. My main issues is that flash Pro 8 costs $700!

Jeff (not Sloan)

You can create a simple animation using FlashMX 2004. The .swf file created is still readable by browsers that have the latest Flash plug-ins.

if all you want to do is simple stuff you can use any version of flash. It`s not until you get into doing stuff with action script (the codeing aspect of flash) that you have to really worry about versions etc. If i have flash player 9 installed and you use flash mx and build a swf for flash 6 then i can read it but someone with flah 5 will be promted to upgrade to the latest player.

As for worring about if everyone has or uses flash i wouldn`t worry to much. flash overall has a 99% penetration in the market and is a better choice versus using javascript.

As an alternative you can also check out Swish Zone they have some lower priced stuff and editors which might suit your needs.

Thanks Jonese and Mary,
I`m going to stick with my copy of MX 2004, and do some clean and simple flash.

good to see you again Jonese.

That animation on the BMW page is pretty straightforward.
Practically any version of Flash will work to create it. You didn`t ask,
but I`ll just mention, export your movie to the oldest possible Flash
Player version you can. For something simple like this it will
probably be flash player 4.

Incidentally, Flash MX 2004 is still very useful and powerful. Flash 8
adds some great new stuff, but unless you`re doing bleeding
edge
animations, Flash video, or complex ActionScripting, MX
2004 will serve you just fine.

Be sure to share with us what you come up with!
