I am starting a metro Detroit area site where homeowners research contractors for all types of home improvement and repair projects.
The site does not charge per lead.
We have a screened contractor directory broken out by skilled trade and county.

I am trying to find out what a proper yearly listing rate would be for contractors.  I`m thinking of charging $50 per trade per county for the year.  Any ideas or thoughts if this seems fair?

Like you said: "Also, you need user traffic to convince contractors to list on your site.  But you won`t get user traffic if there are no contractors listed on your site. It`s a chicken or egg problem."

This seems to be my biggest challange.  Just curious how did you get around this issue?  Did you offer free listings for a limited time until you were able to build enough foot traffic to your site?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
