Hey, it`s the classic "ready to party, will anyone come" problem. I think it`s aggravated by having a standalone office, with that overhead you`ve mentioned.

I can see two options, because the company sounds fine, and yes, it`s VERY early in the game. The one would be to get rid of the office, run your business from home, and remove the worry about the overhead.

Another option would be better: Start offering seminars to people, geared toward both educating them on this "coaching" they`ve been hearing about, and in signing them up for an initial "trial run" of your service. The trial run should be long enough that they get a clear benefit, or can see the soon-to-come benefit, and also pay a useful portion of your overhead.

Yipppeeeeeee......

Guys...guys....guys....

Man, what a day it has been ! It was just yesterday that I was down the dumps inspite of all the hardwork that went in and just when I thought I`d take some professional help as Dking had proposed. Things started falling into place....

I got some steady business lined up for the month of February and March ( and that is just the beginning). There is more in pipeline. My articles got published in a magazine ( Haw haw haw..) I was grinning all day and people thought I`d really lost it.

I was trying hard trying to find people for my writing & training business and I had found some really great folks.

Whoa....al lof that in a DAY?

I am so glad I am  a part of this community. Thanks a ton everyone. I am out seeking to help everyone else while I can.

Ups and downs, eh?

I think that`s the normal life of an entrepreneur ... I wouldn`t take Dale`s comments to heart too much.

That overwhelming blah feeling is a lack of knowing what the next step is. It`s why I wrote Be Your Own CEO. You might find it useful.

BTW - CUT THE OVERHEAD. Lean and mean is the way to go or you`re not going to make it!

:-D Excellent news! Now parlay that into something diversified, so you`re not putting all your eggs in one basket. And, agreeing with Nikole, cut back on the overhead.

Vapourlock, I`m happy to hear of your good fortune. It seems you were just having a bad day. I guess I over-reacted when I read your post, because it brought back painful memories of when my 16 year old brother killed himself. We missed all of the warning signs of depression. As a result of that experience, I mistakenly assumed that your post was a cry for help. I was concerned, that`s all. I`m happy to see that I was wrong. You have my sincerest apologies.

Like you said it may just be too early. Staying "up" all the time is tough. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals; like me :) and others here who are positive, supportive, and edifying- not like dking (which probably stands for you-know-what) NETWORK!; join social clubs; structure your time for biz, net, reflection, planning, etc.; do things that bring you joy when you`re feeling down; contact me any time for some encouragement.

No problemo..I never took that to heart..I am very sorry about your brother. My post was a cry for help but then, I am learning to control myself and see things positively.

Thanks for being there, Dking

I am looking to do something on the self-employed option while I sit here and manage my business. I can`t go back now that I had invested in a little bit of beautification work, infrastructure and all that -- so, I should let the retail business take its time. But meanwhile,

  • I can probably write and earn money to pay off the over heads. It`d bring me 2 streams of income while the rents and bills are paid up?
  • Use the center to run an office of some sort that provides some service?
  • Start a web services business right out of the same office space?

Man, I got space and I am paying for it already, something can be done, right? My clients usually turn up early mornings and evenings. The rest of the day, nothing happens.

What say?

Diversification is always a great idea, particularly when it`s related to invested resources. I know the realtor I`m working with is sharing office space, for a fee, to other small-business owners who are just too small to really need a complete office.

I`m a writer, contemplating a novel, and I know that the discipline of getting up and going out the door to an office would likely go a long way toward getting the novel writ. But I don`t want to really rent an entire office. I would consider renting one of your office "areas," and all it would involve would be a computer and some sort of desk, chair, and perhaps 1 file drawer.

Maybe you could put some ads out or talk to folks in the area, and do something along those lines?

My best recommendation is read. Read a lot. It will preoccupy your mind. Read self help books like anything from John C. Maxwell. Here`s something I got from one of his books: Act motivated, positive and excited about doing something and you will begin to feel the same way as you do it. If you wait until you feel good about proceeding, you never will. That`s not a direct quote but a paraphrase. Anyway you get the idea.
