It`s been about 2 months. I had set up a communication skills, life skills and business coaching centre. I could be too early to comment. Or perhaps I am too late. I could be a loser or perhaps I am not. I don`t know.

But right now, I don`t feel all too well. I make about 6-7 calls per day - all of them cold. Most of them are warm to the kind of product/service I am pitching. I can see that it will all happen. But then, my overheads haunt me every month. I had always known that entrepreneurship is a lonely journey. Now I FEEL IT.

My mom won`t understand. My friends do their best, but they can`t really understand what I am going through.

I don`t even know why I feel so low.

It sounds like you may be suffering from depression. I recommend you get some pychiatric help - and fast!

No Dking, I am fine. It is just that I am feeling very low. My mind is like Whrrrr....Blank....

I am curious as to what others would have done ( assuming they would have gone through anything remotely similar?)

What other strategies are you using besides cold calling?  If calling is not working, you might have to do develop other ways to market yourself.

Hi,

I highly recommend a lot of networking.  Your service is a personal service and people want to build a relationship with you, want to trust you.  You will do much better face-to-face over cold calling.  There are a huge number of afforable networking opportunities everywhere.  Get out and find them!

Also, most importantly, know what differentiates you from others in the same industry and communicate it in your elevator pitch.

Keep your head up.  You are not alone on SuN.  Entrepreneurism is not an easy road but it can be the most rewarding.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi,

what would you tell a coaching client in this situation? Alot of times it is easier to help others than ourselves. Follow your own advice.

I`ve read your post several times, and I stand by what I said originally. I think that you should talk to a counselor or pychiatrist. It`s possible that you`re not emotionally cut out to be an entrepreneur. Some people just aren`t. There`s no shame in that. Seriously dude,  you should talk to someone. You seem very troubled to me.

I recommend networking. Maybe go attend a workshop at SCORE or other areas where entreprenuers or would be entreprenuers meet.

check out local chamber or commerce.

Marketing methods - If cold calling isn`t working, try:

1) Direct Mailing

2) Offer something for free - this gets you in the door so you can make your pitch

3) Google Adwords

4) Email Marketing etc

Hope this helps....

More importantly remember "Quitters never win and Winners never Quit"...don`t give up...the road ahead might be tough but it will be worth it!!

I have recently enrolled in Rick Willmot`s mentor program. (www.executivewisdom.com)
I was hesitant at first because he is based in Australia and travels internationally quite a bit, but arranging the telkephone calls and the response to emails is very quick and easy.
100% recommend him and his program.
It is worth every penny!!!

Just today I had some feelings of being out of my mind (in a Funk). I mentioned to a guy I respect; it was time to do something different since what I was doing wasn`t getting the results I wanted.

I went and sent out a bunch of follow-up emails.

after all I have announced my retirement, rented a facility, bought a bunch of new tools, paid for a couple home shows, done a bunch of wholesale marketing, and nothing has come in the way of orders, WTF am I doing?

then I arrived home from my soon not to be day job and was doing the dishes, heard a knock at the door, the dogs went crazy, and I was a bit concerned because my wife wasn`t home yet.

There on the front porch was an acquaintance, someone I met last year; not much conversation between us, he does own a business which would on the surface be a synergy but my last conversation with him was he wanted to get out of that end and push his other business which has no synergy with me, I thought let sleeping dogs lie, and moved on.

well it seems he wants to rebuild that part of his business now, and came to me to help expand a bit, he likes my quality and is going to build a display around my products ( we still need to work out qty`s and a few other details but it is pretty much a done deal).

my point here is this startup thing seems to be somewhat of a roller coaster ride, it has probably happened in the past but I just can not remember swinging from a funk to a high this fast.

if your not getting the results you want, change what you do! that is basic life 101.

Take the advise above ( not me the others) and change what you are doing, these guys have been there, they know.

we all have had down days and disappointment, just think you could be just coming into the biggest rush of your life, quit now and you`ll miss it.
