I was surfing and found a Don Loper page, “What it means to be an Entrepreneur“.

http://www.donloper.com/business_and_entrepreneurship/what_i t_means_to_be_an_entrepreneur.html

After reading it, I decided to share it with our SUN community. I laughed when I browsed down the list, as I could relate to some things at one point or another, throughout the years. I would have, "Forgetting to eat, throughout certain work days, added onto my list". A lot of my clients and friends go on about how thin I am. I`ve had clients who see me out the door with a wrapped up cake, or bagged fruit & vegetables. I also get coupons to restaurants and for Christmas gifts, I always get plenty of restaurant gift cards! Really, that is kind of cool, but in a way, it is a reminder of all truths, I am more driven to do what needs to done then I am on taking care of the number one thing that even makes my business what it is, because I am my business. When approached of how do I stay so thin, I always try and respond with a logical reason like I don‘t eat breakfast, grab a banna if there is one left in the fruit bowl in the morning and try to eat twice a day, but in all truth, it is about once. But in real truth, what I want to say would not be so appropriate. I want to say, "Just do what I do, then you`ll know why I am so thin". In my case, it is called, "Solo Entrepreneured, on top of handling all else, totally on my own ". And I do know all the restaurants and when I call on my cell for take out, they know my name, automatically. I upgraded my kitchen, buying a new refrigerator, kitchen table, microwave, etc., but left the stove alone, as it can be used for storage and was not a true need. All in all, I would not trade what I do for anything, because I really do love the challenge of it all. But it was funny to read about some of the things that do come with one wanting to go on the venture of what we call Entrepreneurship. Can anyone write a list of what they think, “What it means to be an Entrepreneur?”

So true. I remember my early days being a hungry entrepreneur.  They were dark and sad but they were my initiation days.  I learned a lot from going through them and has made me tougher.

Thanks for sharing!

What it means to be an entrepreneur?

When prudent, willing to change plans as new opportunities arrive.
When prudent,  a risk taker.
A survivor by internal resourcefulness.
A problem solver.

Yep, I believe working for yourself is possessing Willingness and using strategy of, "Mind Over Matter". Any and every matter. Putting them in most importance order and chipping away, one at a time. Most importantly, thinking out of the box, being able to find outlets while not finding yourself caught up to the point where you can`t think prudently, but rising above to see all sides and then coming back to perform the task of beating the challenge/challenges presented. Sometimes, the best thing to do, is leave the desk, building, atmosphere and go do something, anything different and then, suddenly there is a WILL that kicks in, endorphins, ideas, passions, analytical thinking, etc., call it what you want. When that happens, I call it being on a mission. A mission to chipping away, working it, without any thoughts that defeat your purpose. In this frame of mind, of using what is really inside (a persons drive & desires), brings into motion ways of getting over, around, moving, etc., past those heavy rocks, road blocks, things that seem overwhelming and anything that challenges a persons true desires.

In life, no matter what we do, there are always challenges and depending on what your doing, a moderation of risk involved. There are pressures, stress, expectations and etc. in working for others. Being self employed, you take on all responsibility, risk, falls, successes and etc..................

My motto is this: If I’m going to work hard during my lifetime, why not work that hard for myself. So that is what lies underneath my drive to have entered and remain in the world of it’s own called, “Entrepreneurship”. There is a chance of falling, then the choice to get back up, dust ourselves off to go again, but at the root of what anyone really desires is what makes the outcome that drives anyone to continue on in their journey of Entrepreneurship. The further one goes after defeating any obstacle/any challenge, the more knowledge in many areas are obtained, the strength & courage is something never to be overlooked and true identity of ones self is never avoidable. So what is most satisfying, presents itself as the underlying bases for any entrepreneurs drive to succeed, all depends on someone’s willingness to stretch themselves in areas where others would not touch it with a ten foot pole and using the capability’s of dealing/handling everything in a mind over matter frame of thinking.
