I read in an article that one should avoid splitting of links.
Links that come from outside shall have same url as internal links of the same landing page.
What does that mean?
I am quite confused

@MarcusWrite,

Link-splitting can happen when you have two different versions of the same webpage (like http://www.example.com and http://example.com), which is known as having duplicate content.

This has two downsides: first, you 'split' your links across these two domains (so half of your links point to the www domain, the other half go to the non-www domain). This dilutes the potential power of these links, since the number of inbound links you have affects your ranking in search engine results.

The other downside is that if search engines see two version of your website, they either can't figure out which page to rank in the results (so they rank neither) or they think you're spamming them.

This is a pretty easy problem to fix, by implementing a 301 redirect to your preferred domain, or 'canonical URL'. You can find more information on duplicate content and canonical URLs in this blog post.

The links splitting should be avoided as it should point to the Url only. It simply means that links should point to do the same URI rather than some to the index page name and others to the directory root. Otherwise it leads to nonperformance of the pages in the website. We should always try to do links as the same url it is much batter for the ranking and quality.

Hello........

Splitting links are those links which does not redirect  to the proper location which visitors are looking for and mostly it leads to some error pages.

This means that links that point to the same URI more than others in the name of the index page and others to root.It directory is required to have a link to the page. Division rate is divisible, he said, and a link is a link called Split is not to divide or not divide.

I think we should try our best to avoid link splitting concerning Google rank. The rank will be split too.

Splitting links is a key problem I find with newbie SEO'S the solution is simple creat a 301 redirect to the url/ page you want to rank for, if you have a cpanel it is really easy go to domains > redirect  > permanent 301 > domain and then redirect.

Hope this helps.

It means that links should point to to the same URI rather than some to the index page name and others to the directory root.It is requirement to have an index page.A split link is said to be splittable,and a link that is not split is called a non-split link or not splittable.

Splitting as a psychological phenomenon can be understood in two main senses - the division of the mind, and the division of mental concepts. The latter is thinking only in extremes, and as such can be viewed as a developmental stage and as a defense mechanism.
