Hi everyone,

I would like to start some sort of online business and here are some of my ideas to start...........

1. Sell healthy versions of cookies and treats online.  I have a lot of unique recipes that I think people would like.  They can be pre-made or the ingredients shipped and the buyer can make them.

2. Create and sell "points of interest" files for GPS systems.  I would create a website and sell them, or I would charge stores a fee to create and continously update their files and let people download them for free.  "points of interest" files are files that people can download and put on their GPS systems, they allow the GPS to recognize the locations of businesses.

These are just a couple but what does everyone think.  Are these good ideas or are they bound for bust.

Thanks

This is just my opinion, I could be wrong, but I don`t think the cookie idea will be an easy sell.

But, the GPS idea could have some potential, especially if you were to offer it for specific cities, then hook up with rental car companies or vacation companies to offer your files to their customers.  Then you could even, dare I say, charge commercial businesses to be a part of your file.

That`s just my 30 second take on it.  I`d suggest some research before moving ahead.
Have a great day and good luck!

I think healthier snacks usually have potential if marketed to the right "niche".  Do your research, but I don`t think sending them ingredients is a wise idea.  If they knew how to make them, why would they purchase from you?  Yummy snacks that are truely healthy for you...sounds like it may work. Of course this is my opinion.  Good luck!!

Rambo4,

Regarding idea 1: There`s a member on this site who sells gluten/wheat-free cookies. He was interviewed in a podcast by the Sloan brothers. You could find him by searching the community for "gluten".

All the best,
John

Re: cookies
If you do this make sure you research the laws on health codes for doing a commercial food biz.  You probably will need access to a commercial kitchen.

Back in the early 90s a friend was trying to put computers in hotels with local points of interest that would create maps for guests. The idea has long since been overrun by Mapquest an others services.

But, if you could create a tour guide book for a city and then link to a GPS that would offer real value! My wife and I got a guide book for our last trip to Maui and having that link to our GPS to find the “secret” beach or recommended restaurant would have been really neat.

With the number of different GPS devices on the market, would you focus on one brand or create a version for each major brand?

I just noticed that TomTom has traffic updates so they must have two way communication. Perhaps an add on to their site where you provide the content and their users buy access from TomTom and you get paid wen their customers access your service. Charge on a per use bases and a lot of people might want the service a few times a year who wouldn’t need it full time. Might work with the GPS phones as well.

Good luck!

I think your cookie business is a great idea. However research is going to be needed for marketing purposes, if you want it to take off. People are always on the look out for more healthy snacks. Whether it be for their kids or fr themselves. Find the right niche and I think you may have a profitable thing here.
Good luck to you. Let us know what you decide. I would be interestd in trying your product once you get it off the ground.

What if you combined your ingredients into mixed groups, so that Bag A would have 3 indredients mixed together...and Bag B would have 3 ingredients mixed together....

So all your customer has to do is mix 1 egg and 1/2 cup soy milk ( you get my point here) and they have a wonderfully delicious healthy cookie...and you do not have to share your recepie verbatim!

Thats a great idea DefMall.  It would be like Betty Crocker brownies, all the cutomer has to do is add their own perishable ingredients.  I will have to do some research to see if there is such a product out there.  Research, research, research

In reply to Laude`s comment.  I think that is a great idea as well.  I could build a points of interest booklet and combine it with a gps unit and market it to tourist locations.  It would have points that are relevent to the tourist area.

Do you think this would take a lot of travel or could the research be done on the net for the points of interest and work out of my office.  I could ship the gps units and booklets to the tourist areas.

I would have to offer monthly updates for a certain amount of time in case points need to be added or removed.
