Hello

I was thinking of making a facebook fan page
invite people to join fan page
list a popular restaurant in the city
and ask people whats their favorite meal there if they went there before

then list the meal course and restaurant as most popular voted for people who havent tried it there.

Its to build people list

I want to create something like zagat.com with more personal review and most popular voted meal so people know what to try out for their first time.

I have other plans too, just want to get some opinions on trying this way to build the list

Thank you

You haven`t provided much context: is this a business idea, something to augment an existing business such as a restaurant, or something else entirely.

A basic tool for analysing strategy is as follows:

1. Degree of rivalry.
2. Threats of new entrants.
3. Buyer power.
4. Supplier power.
5. Availability of substitutes.

Your service is easy to copy, there any numerous substitutes available, the market is currently saturated with review products, and, as the supplier, you won`t have much if any power relative to the buyers. Google "Michael Porter Five Forces" if you want to learn more about this approach.

Hey Eric.

I just took a webinar on this stuff last night! Here`s what I learned...

First rule is to be a professional when it comes to marketing on facebook. Be an invisible marketer, not a spammer.

So on your own facebook page you should have no mention of your business at all. It should be your bio that is fascinating and interesting and different. And first you want to expand your friend base organically and naturally. You can search groups that are related to restaurants (hopefully in your area) and add people there and also interact on its message boards. If you are consistent then you will have people adding you over time as well! Go for targeted people in your industry. You want a good balance of certified leaders and also beginners.

So when you make posts on forum walls, this is a good principle to keep in mind: *The BEST Marketing Is More Educational And Better Than Most People’s Actual Content And Information* Always give rather than taking.

Then you can build your group: Build the group surrounding your own company and brand yourself as trainer and leader for those people. So for instance you have already been interacting with ten other forums for restaruants that you really respect and enjoy and you have begun talking to leaders in those forums, then you can start your own forum and group.

Build a tribe so when you post a note in the forum, the note will show up on the walls of five of the people you most respect so you`ll get 5X the exposure. This is a new option on facebook. Keep the forum updated and build a highly responsive list through providing the members value and benefiting their lives. There`s so much more to know! Let me know if you have any questions or need any help!

Chris
