I know some have failed. But does anyone think it can work on a local level? Love to hear some ideas.

Well, you will have to consider Federal and/or State guidelines when it comes to the delivery of fresh foods and produce.  Then you have additional guidelines for hot/prepared foods.  Are you talking about food delivered to job sites?  In general terms yes, it can work.

Maybe you could be a little bit more specific in your question?

Yes maybe. Web driven lunch or dinner, using established local restaurants.

Check out your competition at waiters.com

They got their start in Silicon Valley at the peak of money and were popular with the lunch meeting clients.  People could order from various menus, send the order online to Waiters.com and it would be delivered at the appointed time.

I work with a number of home-based bakers and home food processors and recently ran across two interesting Food Delivery Businesses that I think are working well; although time will tell. Both companies are located in North Carolina and one is in the Chapel Hill area while the other is across town in the Raleigh area. The both deliver organic and natural products direct from small farms and local food processors in their communities. You purchase small boxes or containers of food that in most instances is picked or produced just hours before delivery. I love this idea, particularly since I work from home and I am often times too busy to shop or even visit my local Farmers' Market.

Check them out for yourself.

and

Bella Bean Organics: http://www.bellabeanorganics.com/

This will not work for all areas and in all cities but with more folks working from home like myself, putting in 10-12 hour days, this is a blessing.
