Nearly all my work involves staring at my computer day and night coding or creating graphics. I almost always have something playing on my other machine while I`m plugging away.

I know not everyone can have entertainment going while they work, but for those who can (while coding, driving, etc.) — what do you find is good to have on?

A couple months ago I picked up a CD that`s supposed to have brainwave-enhancing audio underlying a kind of electronic soundscape. I thought it was going to be one of those foofy new-age things like healing crystals but I think it really works. When I have this on I focus in on my work and jam through it much faster than usual. So I`ve been listening to that a lot. (But it`s not working at the moment since I`m here, eh?)

Also in queue is the soundtrack to the movie Solaris (the George Clooney version), which I went to great lengths to procure; several Pink Floyd CDs; several mixes of varying music-intensity levels; and in a separate queue I have X-Files DVDs... all of them, except season 9.

I listen to the baby monitor. No time for radio, but when I did have time I usually listened to talk radio just to keep up on current events.

When I am doing something like creating art, I listen to business podcasts because drawing is so second nature to me, I can split my attention to learning new things.

Otherwise if I have to concentrate more, I listen to a lot of film scores as my soundtrack to work.

I also crank up some rock of all kinds to get myself going!

...I listen to business podcasts.....

I used to do that too, I haven`t listened to any of my regular money podcasts in a while. I was a big fan of Financial Sense Newshour for a long time but then it got to the point where the business shows were all "BUY GOLD! BUY GUNS! RUN FOR THE HILLS! THE END IS BLOODY NIGH!!!!" and it scared the crap out me so I stopped listening. I still love the Mogambo Guru though :)

I usually listen to acoustic musicians while I`m working.  I find that most are soothing and relaxing.  I`m a big fan of Jack Johnson and recommend him for work time music.

Right now I`m listening to the soothing sounds of construction across the street. :-P ha!

It`s hard to say what`ll be on in my corner of the room. Some days it`s all 70`s and 80`s rock. Some days it`s all newer stuff like System of a Down.

I subscribe to a music service through Best Buy called Rhapsody.

$15 a month, and I can listen to just about everything I want to listen to, download it to my mp3 player or burn to cd (for an additional fee).

The Playlist today as I code web pages?...

Deep Purple, Accept, Van Halen, Captain Beyond, Alice Cooper (old stuff), Alman Bros., Def Leppard (old stuff), Thin Lizzy, UFO, Foo Fighters, Kiss, Montrose... and many, many more.

A pretty eclectic mix of rock across the decades
