Activity points are related to how often you actively post on the forums in the StartupNation community at www.startupnation.com.

So post early & post often!

Are these just to give someone more credance by being a regular poster, or can they be used to buy something, like a cup of coffee?

Hmm ... cup of coffee sounds pretty good right now.

It`s really just a counter of posts at this point. It has the potential to turn into something more sophisticated as we continually add features & enhancements to the community.

So, I took a walk at lunch and stopped into the local Starbucks for an unusual afternoon caffeine jolt. The line was long & only 2 people were behind the counter - 1 taking money (slowly) & the other making drinks (very slowly).

I aborted & walked across the street to Caribou. Also 2 people behind the counter, but working efficiently. Just finished my drink - tasty.

I think I`ll go to Caribou next time.

Customers can be VERY fickle. (at least I can)

Joel - that is exactly like the Starbucks here in Milbrae! The line is out to the door every time I am there in the morning! They normally have 3 people behind the counter with only one of them is making the drink.  Believe it or not, one of them actually cut up some cakes into tiny pieces and bring around to us guinea pigs.  Once I told the young lady that I would be more than happy to take over her tray and pass the cakes out to people if she would be kind enough to go behind to the counter and make me a single shot mocha in grande cup.  She looked at me and gave me one of those "out of my face" smile.

I am sorry. This is about activity points. Not coffee.

To the new members: Please feel free to reward yourself with a nice cup of coffee for every 100 points you earn.

Meitzi,

Thanks for the reminder about staying on topic.  I like your idea about rewarding ourselves for activity points until something more official comes along.

I have a tendency to reward myself in advance, I hope this doesn`t become a securities issue.

Being a new member to this excellent group, I have been browsing through several topics on the forum just so I know that I don`t ask too many questions that have been discussed in the past. in the process, i bumped into this topic of starbucks coffee.  Being a starbucks addict, I wish someone gave a real competition to Starbucks.

In your case, you mentioned that you were on an unusual afternoon caffeine jolt.  That says it right there.  Coffee is one of the legal products available that one can get very addictive.  It has to do with what caffiene does to your brain.  If I were on the line, I would have patiently waited in the line for my beverage.  That is just what caffiene does to you.

And using this, they make trmendous amounts of money.  I am guessing their margins would be somewhere around 70 - 80%.

Now, if only Google decided to go into coffee shop business and sold beverages for a dollar less that starbucks and can make kick ass coffee  along with all the goodies such as orkut centers, laptops to browse etc etc .. the list can go on and on.....

cheers

Prashant
