Hi,

In 3 weeks time I`m gonna launch a new website. I can reveal the entire concept yet, but the website offers design element of different kinds.

But before the programmer starts, I would like some feedback on the design and some suggestions to features on the site.

First, should the design be red or blue (or may be a different color)? Check out the pics here:

Red: http://tr.im/fdp9

Blue: http://tr.im/fdpi

Other questions I`d like to know about:
  • Which features would you like to see in an e-shop like this, selling designs?
  • Which payment system is the most used and easiest? (paypal, etc)
I appreciate all the feedback

Thx,
Tobias Schelle

There really is no way to answer blue or red ... what are you going for? Red generally evokes feelings of excitement or aggression. Blue generally promotes trust and calm. I don`t know what your marketing plan calls for!

Don`t reinvent the wheel in terms of features if you are trying to launch in 3 weeks ... find a package and use what they have. I have been playing around with Magento ECommerce lately ... there are some things I like about it and some things I don`t. I don`t really think anyone has made a good answer for ecomm yet though ... when someone brings the WordPress model to ecomm though, I`ll totally be there tossing my money in the pot.

If you want the easiest payment system in terms of 3rd party, I`d say Google Checkout, or Paypal.

I think the blue is softer on the eyes and is more appealing to women as well as satisfactory for men.

As for functionality - every wants something different, I suggest finding a pop ups research widget that asks your guest that question. Not only do you get them involved in the process, you end up with and opportunity to build NewNew 2.0 and have another promotion vehicle for driving traffic - "Designed with the help of our customers."  There`s no better way to say "we value your input" than asking them for it in the first place and using it on your site.

Blue also promotes thought and analysis, where red is more "in your face," as Nicole points out.

Go with the blue.

What really matters is if your visitors understand, instantly, the
benefit of sticking around.  If they don`t  "get" what your site can
do for them within a second or two you`ll lose them.

Danile Starch`s color-in-advertising research showed yellow-blue
color combinations were the most prefered, drawing the eye.

Red-blue ranked number 2.  People like both colors but if going
with one or the other I would generally say go with blue, for
a variety of reasons in fact, some of them psychological, some
just having to do with contrast and readability of print.
