Well, lets see lets go to Creative Liberties web site, http://www.creativeliberties.com/ .....

And then go to AllMediaNet, http://allmedianet.com .

Is it then worth $3000 for a total turn-key solution?

First, when creating a website, I reflect the tastes and preferences of the client.
Therefore, my personal website reflects my personal taste. Different looks and
needs are used and developed depending on the client - no templates or generic sites.

Second, this is StartUp Nation. New, fresh companies have different budgets and
different needs. The Sloan Brothers themselves say that the average start-up company`s
budget is $6,000. I felt in this instance, spending 50% of that on a website is
too much

Well, it is good to see you wanting to build your own website and having full control of layout is very important, but you also want something that is easy to edit/upgrade and won`t take your focus off of your business.

If you are looking for a complete all-in-one website builder with shopping cart, I suggest SiteWebBuilder.com, because you want to make sure that building your own website is right for you. You can try the online eCommerce site builder for 10 days free and/or have a 100% money back with 30 days if you are not happy.

Plus, you can always hire them to build a professional looking site for $399 and it will be done in 10 business days if you want a specific custom feel to your site.

They have a 24/7 technical support team that can help you, so I am wishing you the best for you new venture!

To answer a few open items on this thread:

1. for ecommerce, just starting out, get your feet wet without a lot of money and no programming, try Shopify.com (i don`t own it in any way). Online store builder, amazing interface and usability, not ugly or hard to use like yahoo/amazon stores, and less expensive as well.

2. Agree 100% with the deck builder analogy. Why is web design considered such a commodity that anyone can do it? Oh yeah, now I remember...

3. `a min of $3000 seems pretty steep to me` - another FrontPage graduate/newbie coming to lower the bar for the masses. There is so much more to a great website than a handful of pages slapped together - and the constant research, testing, learning new techniques in coding, design, optimization, as well as applying those new ideas to client sites, costs money to learn, to support, to implement.

The cheap comes out expensive - you get what you pay for - check many references before you hire the low-ballers; you`ll find that the sites are harder to maintain, don`t rank well, and quite frankly don`t look as good as what a real professional can do for you.

Starting out a new ecommerce store I would recommend going with a solution such as ZenCart and customize it yourself, buy a template, or pay someone to customize it for you. Once you start to grow and have a decent client base then you can justify spending more on a custom webdesign solution. As for website creation software, I would totally stay away from these, they produce an all around ugly product both visually and on the back end coding.

Any web host that offers Fantastico Auto Installer will give you the option to managed and install ZenCart and similar eCommerce carts with a 1 click auto-installer.

For e-commerce websites, I won't recommend to buy a website. Hire a professional and affordable company who can built your website. CMS will be a great idea because at later stage you can yourself can do some editing.

While developing a website you can get some applications added too which on buying you can't get.

This is really informative and useful conversation about the Website creation/building software. I found that without professional person's help you can't able to build top notch professional looking website. If your budget is lower than you can purchase a custom template and get  the help of developers/freelancers which will help you to build a website at good price point.
