First of all, putting up a Web site doesn`t put "your self` on the block. :-D You have to distinguish between your personal self, and the business you`re running. They`re two very different things.

The "About Us" page isn`t about you...it`s about how to contact you, and what`ll happen with orders and stuff. That should go to a "Contact Us" page, or on the "Email Us" tab. The "About Us" page, I think is very useful and few people work it well.

It`s a page that begins to make the business more human. Instead of reading a magazine online, or just a complicated brochure, the "About Us" page is a friendly way to chat up the customer, talk a bit about why the business exists, and what sort of people are alive behind the images on a machine.

The home page should have some content that explains why the person is viewing the site. It can have SOME product examples, but I`d rather see a "Products" tab on the main menu. Below that could be "Browse" or Search or whatever has to do with finding actual merchandise.

For example, you could put your paragraph that`s currently at the bottom, "At WebDuStuff.com we offer...." up at the top of the main page. Expand on it a bit, maybe two or three paragraphs.

I too didn`t care for the white on gray. And the bubble help is redundant; it serves no purpose.

The "Reasons to shop from (should be "with") us" makes no sense at all. There aren`t any reasons, it isn`t a link, and seems like a heading that goes nowhere. Make it a link, then put a list of actual reasons why someone should shop with you.

By bubble help do you mean what comes up as you place the cursor over a link?

I agree, the white on grey will be changed.  I am looking at several variations of the colors.

I have reviewed several other websites and I also agree that my About Us page doesn`t really show anything "about us".

I look forward to having my site critiqued a second time once I make some adjustments to it.  I will also ask for more detailed feedback pertaining to the different aspects of the website once I incorporate some of the changes.

I am happy that you took the time to give me some feedback as I have read several of your posts and was hoping you would take the time to look at my site.  I am learning everyday from the forums.  Thanks!

Yah the "hover" help, where as you hover over the text you get a "bubble" with something. In your case, it just repeats what`s on the screen so it`s redundant. It`s used mostly for "tool-tips" not on the menu. :-D

Let us know when you`ve made changes and I`m sure lots of folks will take an ongoing look-see. Main thing is to hang in there, and keep tweaking until it`s really excellent.

Thanks Craig, I appreciate your input.  I will look towards eliminating this from the website.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

We have been working on revising our website because most times we service our clients first and our website falls behind. Not to mention, its harder to critique your own site.

I would like any feedback that you may have on our site. Is the design good or bad? Is it easy to navigate? Is the marketing message clear? What does it lack? The URL is www.albx.com. Thanks!!

Who`s the blonde girl? Why is she there? There`s almost no other images
on your site. But then there`s no explaination of her. Is she an executive
or an employee? Is it just photographic clip art representative of casual,
corporate friendliness? She`s got a big picture and seems pretty
important.

The site was a bit boring to me but possibly interesting for someone looking for your services. I am a firm believer of facts tell but stories sell. Since you have some real estate available on your front page why don`t you have some flash images of your testimonies rotate on the front page.

Hope it helps,

John

That writing is really small on the front.

And the stock photo girl is a crackup. That you have her in your profile is an even bigger crackup.

nhgnikole...what do you mean by a crackup? I guess that stock photo of the girl got everyone`s attention, hopefully they looked at her and saw right away that we are "Information Technology Consultants". I have her in my profile because its branding. I paid to use the photo, so why not use it in muliple branding messages?

Because this is a community. Most people would think that picture is you. Other people have their own pictures in their profile ... you have someone else`s picture.

You`re not here to be branding, you`re here in a community to participate and share. Seeing your other posts, your use of the picture is clear. You`re here to advertise your services to others. You should try clicking on the link at the left, in which Joel says:
Blatant advertising & self-promotion without any attempt to offer value in the context of answering another community member`s question is not cool on this forum or in private messages.
Now go back and read some of your posts recently ... I see a lot of blatant advertising. You have only participated in 6 threads, as a matter of fact ... and 3 of them were just blatant advertising.

You really think a stock photo is branding yourself anyway? I`m not a branding expert but you`d be better off putting your logo in there if you really insist.

Speaking of which, I really need a better picture.
