First I would like to say that I am no website designer and basically do not have clue how this works.

Originally, I used my hosting sites program (PageMason) to create my site using a template.  I then wanted a form which would email to me the responses when the submit button was clicked.  This program was not providing the "non-designer" info to create this.

Then had a fellow virtual assistance recreate the site, including the form and blog page.

Enough history -- my company provides virtual Sales Operations Support to owners/sales of small to mid-size businesses.  My vision for the site was to give basic info in a calming enviroment as sales people are know to have short attention spans and work in a very harried world.

Making changes to site is not something I can do myself unless it is copy and paste of code in very simple pages (main tabs - I can`t even find the form in my file manager!).

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated and I will find someone to assist me in implementing them.

Thank you in advance,
CraigL

Hi Cindy :-)

So you`re asking for help in putting in a way to have the site email you form contents when the user clicks the "Submit" button?

Do you also need the form code?

Hi Cindy,

I took a look at your site.  I like the green background.  But, I noticed a few minor issues.

Your testimonial from Kevin should be in larger font.

You also use a lot of vague terms when describing your services and what they can do for your client.  The phrase below is an example.  You haven`t told the prospective client anything concrete.  This is just a vague statement.

New functions, tools and processes which bring additional value and increase your sales productivity

Thank you CraigL for your response -- I have the form up now, I was looking for a critique of the site and any suggestions for improvement.

Thank you nevadascul for your suggestions and I will review and make the updates where I can figure out how.

Question: on the services -- I thought my statements were vague as the services provided are very much dependent on the business type and the current process, tools they have in place.  Until, I have the opportunity to review their business and processes my suggestions are vague.

Do you have a suggestion for better wording with this in mind -- I am kind of stuck.

Hi again,

Yes.  Try siting examples of what you mean by phrase like "new functions" or "tools".  Based on your experience, you should be able to give a client an idea what "new functions" you can provide by tying the phrase to something you did in the past.  In short, what new functions did you bring to a prior employer or client?  In my personal resume` for example, I state I created new receiving procedures.  I then list several of the new procedures and how they benefited the employer.  "Created new receiving procedures" is a vague phrase.  But, then I follow up with a specific example.

Be sure not to underline text that is NOT a link. Viewers assume underlined text is a link.

Watch the file sizes of your images. Even thought the images are small in width and height they are LARGE in file size - at least one over 210kb.  Images should be resized before you use them on the web page.

Design-wise the header is a little large for the rest of the web site.

"About us" page - Cindy has worked with "C" level management... does your target market all know what "C level" means?

I looked again at the site, and find the low contrast between the dark green text box background, and the black text a bit difficult to read. I`d lighten the box background for more contrast. You could match the color with the longer "leaves" in your logo banner, and that`d make it easier on the eyes.

Another thing would be to speed up the information on the main page. Right now, you have:
You love the hunt, the smell of success and dollars generated -
You hate the resulting administrative work.

How many hours do you spend daily "filling out the paperwork", updating your calendar, completing bids and RFQs, reading contracts, preparing presentations, and keeping your contact/database files up to date?

What you could do to make it faster would be:
Love making sales? Hate the resulting paperwork?
  • How many hours a day do you spend filling out paperwork?
  • How often do you have to update your calendar?
  • Tired of always writing bids and RFQs?
  • What about reading contracts, preparing presentations, and keeping you contact database up to date?
Essential Office Solutions can help!
We are a Virtual Office specializing in Sales Support

In other words, you want to quickly state a problem specific to only sales professionals. And you want to even more quickly highlight that you are a support company, and you specialize in exactly that problem.

Leave the two links as the "customer journey" below the fast-blast of introductory information. Then move the last two paragraphs on the home page to the About Us page.

My own thinking about these kinds of sites is that they should let the visitor know they`ve found the right place or the wrong place within 4 seconds of reading the home page.

If your site is what they were looking for, the "find out more" begins the details. The problem with search engines is that they routinely find results that don`t quickly show the person searching whether it`s the right type of result.

Splash pages are a waste of time, but this quick-access home page I think is more than a splash page. It`s a "You`ve come to the right place! This is what we do. If you weren`t looking for this, you`re in the wrong place." See?

A lot of office furniture places have similar names to Essential Office Solutions. If I`m looking for a desk, I want to know that your site isn`t what I`d been thinking of. But if I`m looking for a VA, then I want to know I`m exactly where I need to be. :-)

Thank you everyone for your time and suggestions.  I will be updating my website to incorporate many of your items.

It is very helpful to have input from other business owners and not all in your same industry as it provides different perspectives.
