Website Hosting: MS based or Linux based?

I need some advice here...

Thinking about switching over from a Microsft based web hosting to Linux based and was wondering what software do you use to write code for PHP? Before you say it, I know you can use Notepad and write the code by hand, and once I have the time to learn, I plan on doing just that, but as it is now, I need something user friendly and fairly easy, but yet powerful to convert all my web pages.

Advice? Ideas? Suggestions? Let me hear your professional opinions on all of this everyone. Would you stay with MS based or consider Linux based? Why go with one over the other?

Linux-based. I trust the security and reliability of Linux over Microsoft servers. Also, since PHP and MySQL grow out of the Linux environment (and get ported to Microsoft) they tend to be faster, more secure, feature-rich, and up-to-date on Linux.

I use Dreamweaver when writing PHP. I just write it in Code view.

All that great open source stuff got me to switch to Linux and it`s working out very well. Dreamweaver is my choice for PHP.

Eclipse PDT is the best for PHP that follows the MVC model. For quick edits I use Vim or Notepad++.

Absolutely Linux ...unless you need to use asp, then windows is required.

I use Linux + MySQL at BlueHost.com. I would highly recommend them.

Now using Zend Studio for Eclipse for PHP development. Used to use Dreamweaver, but I find Zend`s PHP development much more comprehensive (a fully fledged IDE). Helps me write better code more efficiently.

Linux as .htaccess files are a very powerful tools for your site and hosting for Linux is cheaper across the board. Something that IIS can`t offer.

I use Dreamweaver as well for editing PHP files.
