Be careful about how you`re thinking of your site. "Visit" a site begins, usually, with the click to the home or landing page.
People don`t enter a site and have a first impression. People
"click" the site URL from a search engine, then get a first impression
in between 4-10 seconds. If they don`t like the front page, they leave.
In a home, people physically have to make a lot of effort to drive to
an address. Given they`ve invested a lot of effort, they`ll at least
walk through the door, look at the main room, then perhaps walk around
a bit.
You`re comparing apples and oranges in the analogy to a physical shop
or building. To make it more reasonable, imagine being in a taxi cab,
cruising around some sort of neighborhood. That`s your "query" to the
search engine.
As you`re driving, you`re getting first impressions from the front view
of the property. That`s it. Then you pass on by. Only if something
about that front view strikes your fancy do you tell the driver to slow
down, maybe pull over. But all it takes is a tap on the shoulder and
off you go again.
All it takes is a single mouse click, and your visitor is gone.
