Hello:
I went with FatCow for the hosting portion of my website but I am responsible for the design which I am horrible at.  Which program do you recommend I use other than Microsoft Frontpage?  I am not the best at this but I`d like to design my new company`s website.

I use WYSIWYG Website Publisher.  You don`t need to know a single line of HTML.  Start from a template then modify to your needs.  You just drag and drop objects (text, image, shapes, buttons, menus, etc) and change the object properties.  My site is built with this tool, though it is still under construction - take a look.  (www.mmdv.com)

Another tool I recommend you explore is WebPlus X2 by Serif Software (http://www.serif.com/webplus/). No HTML knowledge required, but available if you prefer. The have a few nice templates or you can start completely from scratch. And they have some easy to integrate ecommerce features.

Good Luck!

Hello Jbjints -

I have once been in the same shoes as you are so don`t worry! I struggled finding a great program that was cost effective, and also learning curve effective ;) I recommend you try out Nvu (http://www.net2.com/nvu/download.html) it costs nothing and is very useful for beginners that don`t want to learn coding!

Let me know how it goes!

If you`re looking at HTML you could use Mozilla`s NVu. It`s a whole helluva lot better than FrontPage, that`s for sure! And it`s free!

How do you want people to find your web site? If you want people to find you on a search engine like Google then you may want to look at companies that teach you how to build a web site that will get traffic.

We use SBI!. They offer many options including one for those with little html experience up to those with lots of experience.

I use Wordpress as a CMS both for myself and with clients, there are plugins and professional templates for everything you need to do. There is a learning curve, but nowhere near as steep as website builders, and there is so much support out there it isn`t funny.

Best of luck!

Hi,

A very good way to get a website up and running quickly is to use Wordpress. This assumes that you have a hosting service and can setup Wordpress via the provided cPanel or SimpleScripts.

It is really easy to get started and you can initially use free templates of which there are thousands. You can later opt to pay a specialist or just customise a theme close to what you need.

The key point about Wordpress is that you can quickly focus on creating content and hence get visibility on the web.

I use Wordpress for my main websites - I have 2.

Some people will say Wordpress is a blogging platfom, but its not. Its now a complete Content Management System that has thousands of themes and extensions called plugins. For example, if you want to start a shop there are many plugins for that. If you want a membership site, there are plugins for that too.

Hope this helps
cheers
Tony
