Congratulations Janet!  And on the the cover too! What a great time of the year for you to be featured.  Hope you get your website up and running soon.

Jennifer, that was an interesting comment regarding republishing an article.  I never heard of that before.  They can charge you fees???

Anyway, good luck with your new business Janet.

Janie

My business has been featured in many magazines over the years.  Some will provide you slicks of the magazine cover on which you are featured, or the article about your business, for a fee. In my personal experience - most, by simply asking, will not have any problem with you making use of cover image or article, provided that you give them the specific credit line they request.  For use on websites and blogs most will simply request a credit line and link back to the publication`s web presence. It`s all part of establishing relationships with publication writers and editors.  (I`ve worked with some for over 20 years now).

Congratualtions!!  Everyone tells me P.R. is the greatest thing for a start up and more and more I see the wisdom.  As a start up myself, I am going to do all I can to get to the local media and not so local.   Good Luck!!

Congratulations Janet!  I was thinking about trying to do some sort of PR opt, just before or during the launch of my business.  Thank you so much for all of the information in this thread.  You guys and gals never cease to amaze me.

It`s true that some pubs will allow you to use the stories with no fee.  The problem comes in when you attempt to "republish" the article which is essentially what happens on the Internet.  They consider your use of the aritcle in its entirity on your website as republished, rather than having a link back to the news site, which obviously has no implications.

I would always be careful and look into this as I`ve had clients in the past get a frightening phone call asking for a lot of money in fees.

Now, if you`re simply making copies for your press kit or to hang in your place of business, it shouldn`t be a problem.  I do suggest going to a printer, not Kinko`s (who will ask if you have rights to the article), to get copies.  Sometimes you can slip into Kinko`s and do it yourself.

These are some of the issues my clients and me have run into over the years.  Always best to be safe than sorry.

I love your website!  Just curious... do you rotate your products to coincide with the time of the year?  In other words will you sell Christmas items year round?

Congratulations on the magazine cover -- what a feat!

Charlotte,

Eventually, we plan to cover all the major holidays that people decorate for.  However, since it takes time to design, manufacture, and bring new products to market I believe our main focus will be on Christmas to start off with.  Hopefully, I`ll be able to roll out some products for the other holidays soon, especially Thanksgiving and then maybe Easter.  What holidays other holidays do you suggest?  What holidays do you think people want sophisticated decor for?

Wow......Sterling Pear is an excellent name. Happy for your success and wish you much more in the future. Also, tell people by word of mouth and social media of your media appearance. Helps improve brand value. Good luck
