Hello Startup Nation Community,

I`ve been a member for a short while here on StartupNation.com but have not gotten up the nerve to begin my own business for fear of taxes and other such issues regarding starting and running a business.

I have wanted to start running my own business ever since I went to college and earned my Associates Degree.  I am currently working on my Bachelors Degree and have has several jobs in relation to my degree of study which is Information Systems. The main problem I have been having is the work styles I have come across in the work environment.

I see myself as someone who gets things done where everyone else just makes excuses and I truly an tired of hearing co-workers complain about their jobs when they have no idea how good they have it.

Sorry for going a bit on a rant in this post.

The issue I am facing in starting my own business is that I am unsure about myself.

I have completed my life planning and update it every month or so.
I am constantly going over my business plan updating it frequently

Here is my Phase 1 business plan:

Get a business license
get some inventory to sell on E-bay
Goal on E-bay in 1-3 Months make $2k in profit a month

This is the Goal I have set for myself to go from E-bay to Phase 2 of my business plan.

Does this goal seem too far fetched or is it realistic?

I have no problems whatsoever in working 80-120 hours a week to make this work.

It sounds as if you`re anxious about the accounting side of doing business? There`s no reason why you couldn`t look around in your town and find an independent accountant to speak with. See what they suggest about how to set up the business.

You also sound as if you`re a fairly decent judge of people. When you talk with various accountants, you`ll probably "hit it off" with one of them, and get a sense that this is the person for you.

A classic rule in business is to "do what you do best, and delegate the rest." If you`re fearful of accounting, then delegate it. At least until you have a sense of what needs to be done, and if you`d like doing it on something like QuickBooks.

From what we`ve seen on eBay and their increasingly prohibitive rules, you may find that arriving at $2K/month is more difficult than it was a year or so ago. Try not to put all your eggs in one basket there. There are some other good places we`ve found, one of which we`re just now starting:

Remember: You don`t have to do everything in 10 minutes. :-) This is a *life* plan and goal. Running a business is just as much about personal development and adventure as it is about making money.

Dear Vasator,

I feel you very anxious as I was few years ago, now I am sure and ready to take a risk.

I finally decide to open my own business. I have created a blog in order to share with you all, my experience in the process of business creation.

I would be happy to receive your comments on each subject and take the road to the creation of a business together.

Good luck to all of you

Hello Vasator,

I think you have been given some great advice by Craig.  I would tell you just to take it slow and get help with the areas that make you uncomfortable.  The fact that you have any plan in place is a HUGE step and you have actually gone much further than many.  The members of SuN are extremely helpful and generous with their knowledge.  So, I say get started and when you have questions along the way just ask.  Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
