Doers can’t win alone. Plain and simple. Doers fall behind. Why, because they can’t stop doing. Doers are too entrenched in the moment, caught up in what needs to be done – unable to step back. Doers are not acting as entrepreneurs. And as doers, they will struggle… Wondering why their business is not moving forward, not growing, stuck in a static state. And sad to say, from most of my research, my interaction with business owners and my experience, the majority of ‘entrepreneurs’ and small business owners are actually just doers. People who keep on doing what they did before, but have bought or invented a new place for them to do it.

If you want to be successful as an entrepreneur, you need to take time to think.

"If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." - I don`t know who said it first, but it`s my motto. I have a horrible time allowing myself to trust anyone to do anything that matters to me. I don`t want to think it`s a feeling of my superiority over everyone else, because on the contrary, I often have low self esteem, but it probably is. Nobody`s perfect. I`m a doer.

I`m also a thinker, but not so much during work hours. I do for money and think for free. Even my current job at Staples has me thinking work 24/7, always trying to figure out how to impress so that I can get nominal improvements in positions to make it tolerable. When I start my cafe, I imagine I`ll be in the same boat. Work like hell on the clock. Think like crazy off the clock. The world needs doers and the world needs thinkers. I don`t have the income to hire both. I fully expect to be both the brain and brawn of my upstart company.

That`s fine for starting out your business until you start seeing some profits. But once you`re moving that`s a horrible motto and I challenge you to find any successful business person in history that would agree with it. The story you will always find is that they surround themselves with experts. Empowering employees is a beautiful thing and will allow you to relax. Isn`t the goal to not work like hell on any clock?

To me a doer is a person focused on tasks, not outcomes.  A person who just wants to check things off a list rather then think about whether they are worth checking off.
