If there is an area of knowledge that you are particularly strong in, you may want to consider registering as an expert on a Q&A site that pays its experts. Techdirt is the only example that springs to mind right now but there are probably better ones. Note that with your skills, you don`t necessarily have to have all the answers but should be able to find them quickly.

Another way is to find an area that is of interest to a wide range of people and start a blog that unearths interesting and otherwise unavailable facts/news about this area of interest. I would suggest that personal improvement and entertainment are two of such areas. As an example, see what Steve Pavlina has done with his blog, writing on subjects ranging from how to wake up early in the morning to how to make money from your blog.

Finally, it seems to me that you have half an idea about the sort of business you want to pursue. You may therefore want to try idea tagging. Besides, being a researcher/analyst type you might find it fun unravelling other people`s clues on the site. Check it out to see what I mean. Good luck finding an idea.

What about Movies & Television?

There is a lot of varied research going on behind the scenes!

Think about you favorite shows. What research was behind the storyline, etc?

It could be fun too!

The biggest problem that I face is that of a lack of writing skills. I am more the type who can compile information. I have thought of the idea of digitizing documents for people. I am sure there are business` out there who do this. I am more towards individuals not so much businesses. Individuals have papers that they have in which they want to keep but dont necessarily <see how bad my spelling is> want to keep them around the house. So You could have them scanned and sorted to their likings. This would eliminate the paper folders in the office.

I have yet to look up and see the existing business or services available like the one that I have descibed. If you know of one or have used one let me know!!

I thought of another idea---working for a private investigator, or any other type of investigation service. I`m not sure, but you might come under their licensing as an employee...but you`d have to...well...research that :-)

A problem with the PI field in Indiana is that I cannot be a sworn Law Enforcement Officer and be a license PI at the same time. I am really swaying towards the Paralegal Field. I can do this type of work without having to alter my full time profession. I have sent messages to people who are members of SUN but havnt had any replies except one who wanted to sell me a franchise.

If I`ve learned anything over the course of my week, it`s that in a brainstorming session, as someone begins to "hold" a position, it`s because that`s their true intent, or true desire.

You wanted a business idea, and as you`ve brought into real words the various ideas here, you`ve come to the conclusion that you want to get into paralegal work. Now it may seem to YOU that you`re "only leaning toward," but that`s the point. You`re feeling a growing "resistance" to anything other than paralegal.

Steven King talks about "the boys downstairs" who take care of moving furniture into and out of the "basement" of the subconscious. You have to learn to both work with those thoughts, and to know when to let them percolate and do their thing. In this case, it looks like all the heavy lifting has been completed.

Now comes the day-to-day strategy of figuring out how to break into the paralegal field. You`d likely not want to be fully educated as a paralegal, but could you maybe at least start as a researcher? Or do you HAVE to be trained as a paralegal in order to even know what to research?

Welcome aboard CS!

There are some great things happening with  e-learning, tiger teams, and gluten-free products, ALL of which I am sure could be served by your strengths in research.

You like researching.

You Must be pretty good at it.

Everybody I have ever known hast had to do some research of their own.

Since you are so good at it  what don`t you Teach people how to be a good as yourself at the act of researching.

Maybe a program for the E-learning project.
