Just so everyone involved knows, SUN has had the rules posted all along and they are here: http://www.startupnation.com/southwest_giveaway/official_rul es_independence0607.htm

TJ - According to the rules, the SUN will take the poll into consideration, but they have the final say. Really the poll doesn`t mean much. It`s nice that it gets new people to the site - "newbies" or not. That is the whole point of the promotion... that and giving a nice pick-me-up to a burnt-out entrepreneur, which I think is very kind of SUN and Southwest Airlines. Let`s not turn such a nice gesture into something that creates bad feelings.

I hope you`ll stay in, and wish you luck. Your cause is an admirable one.

Hi Joel,

You are just to cool!  I have been sooo busy that I just logged on and voted for "Who deserves the Vacation"  Everything comes at the right timing.  I truely believe that.  We wouldn`t be going to California this year if I didn`t win the Southwest Airline Tickets from SUN.  I am truly blessed.  The finalists seem all like very passionate entrepenuers and all have wonderful reasons to win.

Maybe there should be a single mom forum?  Connecting other single mom business owners with eachother?  Just a thought.  We are always looking for support.

Thanks again for my opportunity.

I unfortunately have been pretty busy and so I haven`t been able to chime in on this since I first got nominated. It is interesting to see where this has gone. Although I can see TJ`s point...I hardly think that this whole contest is worth all the fuss. It is a vacation...simple as that...and although I truly believe we could all USE one...I don`t think it is worth fighting/arguing over. A good old fashion contest...whether popularity based or not...is meant for fun...the vacation is merely a way to get participants in on the fun and have something to be reaching for.

No offense TJ...I do truly see your point...I am new and therefore don`t have a ton of people here on the forums that would know me...and my friends and family are far and few between...so in a popularity contest I would lose horribly...but I am having fun...and I got to hear other people`s stories (which makes me feel so not alone in my struggles to stay afloat)...and we are all involved...which is what a community of like minded people are meant to do...get involved with each other.

I wish everyone the best in this...and I hope that whoever gets it really enjoys it...and takes some pictures to post up here so we can all enjoy a little bit of a vacation through them. Maybe it is time to lighten up a bit though. This is suppose to be honest fun...good times...and maybe a little down time for one of us!

Best of luck to all!!! (Hey Chris (cuz you are rockin in the poll)...don`t forget the pictures when you get back...I can`t live vicariously through words...I am all about the pictures! HAHAHA!!! )

Hi Leah - I totally agree. I honestly didn`t think I was "popular" though and I don`t understand the fuss. Since when is it so horrible to be involved on SUN? I have some experience in being a start up and I`m also an inventor with patents, so I have things to share (meaning help people if requested) - and lots of questions. TJs comments were hurtful because he implied that I was ahead due to my popularity and not because of my entry. It completely dismissed the fact that I might be a person deserving of a vacation. A few bad things have happened since I posted my entry, and I was feeling overwhelmed and down. Finding out that I was a finalist really lifted my spirits - only to be accused.

Anyway, thanks for the nice post. I`m not counting my chickens. I think you are just as deserving, as I know how hard it is to raise a child with special needs. We are now questioning my 14-month old`s abilities. He`s currently being evaluated by the same agency that evaluated my older son. My older son is now thought to have permanent disabilities. We had his IEP meeting last week.

Good luck!

Steve

I`ve heard it said "you can tell much about a person by how they handle victory as well as how they handle defeat".

There`s one vacation and ten finalists. That means one person will have a chance to be a gracious winner and nine people will get to show whether they can lose and remain gracious.

As entrepreneurs we compete every day in the battlefield that is the marketplace. I do my best to arrive with a superior product, marketing message, etc. Anything I can do, legally and with a clear conscience, I`ll do to tip the balance in my favor. It`s in our blood. We can`t do otherwise and be true to ourselves. Everyone who entered made their best case. That`s what they were supposed to do.

Were it not for StartupNation I honestly doubt that my wife and I would be in the midst of the biggest adventure of our 25 years together, starting a business that we can both do. Anything that exposes more people to the "start it up" message is a good thing. Including a "popularity contest". Perhaps not every new person will stick around, but I did.

I`ve never seen or heard anything associated with StartupNation that Jeff, Rich & Co. would need to be ashamed of. All I can say is thanks for spreading the word, and keep doing what you`re doing.
