Hi Everyone...I just joined the "community" tonight (01/07/2011) and would like to know if anyone here is familiar with the names of the specific Venture Capitalists or other investors whom invested in the following sites:

MeetTheFamous.com

Facebook.com

Myspace.com

Twitter.com

Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to participating in the community and contributing in any way I can.

Michael

As far as I know the German Samwer brothers (European Founders GmbH) gobbled up equity in Facebook when it was still in its infancy. They did the same with LinkedIn. With both companies planning IPOs, it looks like they’re going to see a pretty decent return on their initial investments if they held on to their equity positions. According to the media they have a mixed reputation though. I’m not sure if they qualify as a VC, they’re probably more of a hybrid between an investor and rouge entrepreneur. Their collection of websites is said to do more than $1 bn every year.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Karl

You can look at Union Square Ventures - look for Fred Wilson.  Not sure if they invested in the companies you mention here but they primarily invest in that space. You might also consider the Foundry Group - look for Brad Feld.

Here is an article you might find interesting about how to approach investors: http://www.businessmoneytoday.com/Articles/Financing/2010/Article_Getting-Investors-to-Notice-Your-Business.html

If you are looking to start-up a business and you don't have enough initial capital, than you should look for external funding sources. In order to do this, you should have access to a good data base of investors. This means obtaining the direct contacts of venture capitalists, angel investors and private equity firms. Raising funds is not a difficult job when you have the right instruments for it!

Check out a resource like www.crunchbase.com. Also, make sure you really want VC funding. Watch this interview to get a good overview of what they are looking for.
