Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of gaining funding from venture capitalists and/or angel investors? Interested in the process and gaining any info  that anyone has to share. Are there any websites that will allow you to make contacts that may lead to this type of funding?

Kia,

There are numerous web sites that claim to offer connection to VC and angels. However, the vast majority of  the VC/angels will tell you that a "personal" introduction is by far the best way to approach them.

Does anyone know of a resource where you can get a list of those firms?

This month`s Inc`s magazine has an interesting article on how you can/should look for VC blogs and post comments to get their attention if you don`t have a personal connection.

But in general I`m with Robert - find a connection that is connected.

I would add that part of the process that we encourage our clients to follow to become Capital Ready includes building your constituency - who can (and will) provide exposure /introductions to your optimum potential investor.

Robertj,

I have been viewing this conversation with some interest.  I have a question, are you aware of a source that might invest in the restaurant business?  Unfortunately the list of contacts for funding I have come across have centered around tech services.

Gotjokes,

As you know, restaurants are viewed as "risky" although I can`t say they are more risky than some of the tech stuff I`ve seen in the past!

Most people (VC firms, professional angels and private investors) invest in what they know and/or what they feel passionate about.
