Hello Everyone...

Does anyone know of a good website out there that allows one to get in contact with potential venture capitalists or angel investors?  If this is not something that is typically done online, how do entrepreneurs usually get in touch with such people to begin or grow a business venture and request a considerable amount of capital?

Thanks for any info!

On my blog, Show Me the Money, I wrote about a website which helps entrepreneurs research prospective venture capitalists.

Best way to get VC interested is thru intro of a successful entrepreneur.

I presented to 2-3 VC recently just thru my mentor, who is president of a Bay Area movers/shakers group with top business leaders as members, such founder of eBay.

Networking, networking and more networking.  Many VCs won`t even talk to you unless you are introduced through another trusted source (like a prior success, as Innovator7 suggests).

Join groups (if you qualify)like EO since they are often networked into VCs, Angels, etc.

And remember that VCs aren`t investing in your company, they`re investing in YOU. If they don`t believe in you they won`t give you any money, no matter how good your idea is. On the other hand, they may invest in a B-grade company if the management is highly intelligent. Just something to remember.

Thanks everyone for the GREAT feedback!

A little more information about the venture:

The company has been around for 10 years now with a strong and experienced management team.  In order to grow, and secure new and more profitable work; the company will need to secure funding in some way.  From my research I am not sure if an Angel, Venture Capital, Investment Banking, or others.

From the articles/links provided in this post it seems that a VC or funding is interested in an experienced management team, in an industry with growth potential.  But what type of funding would be needed for this situation?

Thanks so much!

There are a number of factors that influence the choice of a funding strategy.  Considering the combinations of types and sources - there are upwards of 50 possible funding strategies. The first question in the path to determining your "optimum" strategy is - How much capital are you seeking?

Right now we`re just doing research on the topic.  This is a `family owned` business and to continue to compete in a competitive industry dominated by GIANTS, the business must grow.  It`s been around for 10 years and experienced with qualifications and presence in the immediate area in the construction/development arena. (professional services)

In regard to amount of funding, I do not know exactly.  Just taking in ALL information like a sponge about the different types, strategies, etc to formulate an idea of the final amount, and type of funding.   I wouldn`t want to go into a meeting asking for too much, or spend all this time looking into VC and requesting too little.
