I just wanted to say goodbye to all (short term). My wife & I are heading on vacation!!! That’s right, we have finally achieved a vacation. We will be driving (flying is too expensive now days) from our home city of San Jose, CA to Vancouver, WA as of TODAY! We are leaving on a much deserved vacation to say hello to my side of the family. (Her family lives in Viet Nam... I don`t think we`ll be going there soon.  Well, unless the Lotto purchase pays off. )

So to all my fans, friends and acquaintances, I will talk to you again soon. Hopefully I will be writing while on vacation too. You know my addiction level to the SuN community!

Tell me, where do you typically retreat to when you’re able to escape for a vacation?

(I had to look up "vacation" in the dictionary. Is that fair, using words nobody`s ever heard of?)

Ok. Here I am on vacation and still reading and posting to SuN. Maybe it`s not a vacation!

I recently went to Hawaii for vacation and mostly managed to stay off the computer. However I was unsuccessful in my attempt to avoid sunburn.

Fun indeed. Strange thing: Box jellyfish were washing up on beaches on the south side of Oahu on the days those photographs were taken, including a beach very close to the cove where those pictures were taken. So I decided sunburn wasn`t so bad compared to a jellyfish sting. I had no idea there were jellyfish in the water as the lifeguards don`t place warning signs in the coves, just on beaches.

Nikole, thanks for the kind words.

Wait, did you just call me a hunk? First time for everything. Most people think I look unfriendly more than attractive. Of course that`s probably because I am always tired or not the drunk one at the party. [ Almost a teetotaler here. ] Then again ... on my trip to Hawaii I was twice approached by women on airplanes. One whom I sat next to and another who was serving us lunch during the flight. Propositioned might be a better word ... but the approach was just a bit more subtle instead of outright. [ Except perhaps for the part where the woman I was sitting next to invited me - a complete stranger - to come stay at her house in Los Angeles. Of course I had a connecting flight - and I`m a gentleman - so I had to say no. ]

Vincent -

Hope you are enjoying the vacation.  Living in North Portland, Vancouver is only a  few miles from my home studio.

Vacations:

St. Croix every February (friends have a house there that we have for two weeks each year)

A 7-10 day gold mining trip to Oregon`s Wallowa Mountains each August

Two+ week trip somewhere each fall - it will be Italy again this year.

My partner gets six+ weeks of paid vacation each year.  We make sure to use it all!

- J.
