Links on Twitter are already nofollowed and most are shortened anyway by a shortener. What use can Twitter be for link building? Link building Eric Ward says the site is perfect for finding niche experts.

Twitter is for sure the most popular micro-blogging service which you can use completely for free on the internet. Allowing you to post “short” status updates anytime, anywhere you go and you are. With thousands of active users, it’s great way to build-up your blog or web site link popularity and overall traffic and rankings for free...

I use twitter and find it very useful. When I leave a link behind I never use a shortner. Often times followers will retweet a message creating even more links. Twitter is a plus.

I get quite a bit of traffic from Twitter, although I agree that its value to SEO is questionable...  Except for the link from your profile page (which I see counting toward the links pointing toward my site)...

Here`s an interesting article on how to use twitter to market your business.

I don't see the benefits of using Twitter for link building, especially if you don't have a large fan base. I don't use it too often, but I do use it occasionally.

With the new Google caffeine being introduced, Twitter and other news and social networking sites can be more effective and you could easily be placed on page 1 for your keyword for a limited time.

It might not be a great marketing strategy for the long term, but for new startups it can certainly bring in some quality traffic.

I'm all about link building and I also think Twitter can be a great resource for online marketing purposes, but I'm not sure I see how you can combine the two and really see results.

I think Twitter has zero SEO value as it does not pass link juice. All links are no follow. That said, I have submitted to several no follow sites within a short amount of time and seen my rankings boosted on Google. So, Google may not be absolute about "no follow".
